I recently transferred into a 4 year university and am navigating my way through the pre-reqs for dental school. I am not a science major, and will be taking of all my pre-reqs at my university. My question is, how bad would it look if i were to take physics at a community colege during the summer. The reason i would like to do this is because at my school alot of math prerequisistes are needed to take physics, up till calc 2 and another, so i am assuming the physics at my schools is calculus based. Fruthermore, since i am a junior, i am planing on finshing up all my prereqs within two years and taking the dat and applying in the summer of 2011, leaving a gap of one year between my university and dental school. Will this look bad, do i need to search for a one year post bacc program to fill the void? thanks in advance, this is a wonderful and informative website!

You don't need to take calc based physics for dental school, just general (trig based) physics would be enough. Search this website for threads on what dental schools allow community college credits (prereqs in particular). Taking a year before DS isn't a big deal and doing a post bac program would be a waste of time unless you need a Science GPA boost. So use that time to volunteer, shadow and prep to nail DAT's and you will be just fine. Best of luck!

Im a Junior transfer and am gonna graduate in 2011 too! 🙂 So your not alone! lol Dental Schools dont like students taking pre req at a cc. You only need to post bac unless you science gpa is down. Good Luck!

Agreed. Make sure you nail the DAT with good shadowing. Everything else would be secondary.
