Transfer from D.O to M.D.

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Its been done but there is almost always a HUGE/LEGIT reason why....ie major documented personal/family issues that require a person to be in a location where there is only an MD school.....if its just for the percieved prestige of having an MD after your name then it is not gonna happen unless you are one hell of a good liar. The few times that I have heard about included the 100% legit reason AND passing USMLE step 1.

If you think you are going to be unhappy as a DO (for whatever percieved reason that you deem to really matter) then DO NOT take the spot away from someone who really wants to be there. Do what you have to do, (ie masters program) to get the letters that you desire.

Why do you want to know?

cause i take care of my grandparents on a regular basis so in case i can't be too far away from them i am gonna have to ransfer and the only school in the city where i live is MD.

You would need to check with that specific school then because some schools won't even really allow transfers from other MD schools. There are no guarantees in transfering even if they do allow it.

has anyone ever transfered from D.O. to M.D.? Just want to know if there is such a thing?

Why?

It is possible, however the following has to occur:

1. There has to be an open spot in the class
2. You must have a high enough undergraduate MCAT & GPA to have been accepted there in the first place
3. You have to outcompete all MD-MD transfers for this spot
4. You must have a competitive medical school GPA
5. You must have adequate Step I USMLE scores (if transferring after 2nd year)
6. You must have an acceptable reason for transferring (i.e. family --> changing schools because you don't like the current one will get your application rejected)

A second year at PCOM is transferring to Tulaine next year. He has to move beacuse of his girlfriend.

For DO's who just want to get an MD after their name, there is a program in the caribbean that offers a 3 month course for DO's, after which you are granted an "MD degree". I think it's in aruba.

Or you can go to California, and pay the fee to get the degree changed....

Oh wait!
