Hi all!
Congratulations to those who matched and best of luck to everyone!!!
I matched into my #10 choice for Ob/Gyn and feel pretty disappointed -which is why I would like to look into transfering after my intern year. Do you guys know how to get info on that? When should I start looking into it? How can I access a list of PGY-2 positions? Do I have to let my current PD know and if so, when?
I'd greatly appreciate any input!
Thanks and acongrats again!!!

You can find a list of open positions on the ACOG website. Hunt around a little bit. I think it's under the educatin toolbar and called CREOG clearinghouse or something. Lists all open OB-RES positions.

It's not hard to transfer. You should be up front with your PD, but I would wait a few months and see how like your residency. Who knows, you might end up liking it and not want to transfer!

Your PD will HAVE to know because most programs will require a LOR from him/her when processing your application for a position.

As the above poster suggests, wait a couple of months not only because you may change your mind but because it looks like you've given your current program a fair shake. After all, you should expect to have to explain to your current PD and any program you're considering WHY you want to change. "Because I really didn't like this program" isn't a good reason.

Not liking the program isn't a good answer? What if you're really miserable there because you really don't click with the other residents there. I'm really interested in my field, but the other residents are there simply to collect a paycheck and get out of work. It's discouraging, and lots of faculty are leaving. So, basically, I don't like my program, and want a more stimulating environment. I know it's not nice to say, but why is that a bad reason, do I need to come up with an excuse?

Did the program force you to rank it?

Check it out for a while first as above posters stated. Be happy you matched. You could have been scrambling for a prelim surgery spot.
