I did a serach but was not able to find an existing thread on transfer students. I was just wondering if anyone out there had suggestions for a first year who wants to relocate? i was thinking about trying after second year when clinical work replaces the classroom? any advice?

My crystal ball tells me that you are a 2010 student and that you are looking into transferring simply because you didn't get into a big name school this interview season. My crystal ball also tells me that you will fall in you with whatever no-name school you attend and laugh at your former self three years from now.

Wow. You have got some balls!
You are wrong. I am already in school. The school is an accredited state school, on a few top ten lists, in fact. As I am an older student who recently moved from an international, big-city atmosphere, I am not happy with the small town, homogeneous, undergrad atmosphere. And the PBL curriculum really lends itself to a specific type of learning-style, not mine. Four years is a long time to be out of one's element, and if i can find a way to make myself happier, then i might as well try. But thank goodness, in addition to my current complaints, that my classmates have not expressed such arrogance as you just have, or i'd really be in trouble! I hope you don't treat your future patients this way, you'd give doctors a bad name.

You gotta have a good excuse to transfer or it aint happening. Like a family emergency or a spouse with a transfer. PBL will be over when you move to the wards in the third year. Plus you can do some away rotations in fourth year and transfer outta there for residency. 🙂

Exactly. And even then, it can be hard to transfer; it's not an automatic thing. Usually, someone has to leave to make a place for you.
