I currently go to a top 10 liberal arts school that's renowned for its science program. This school just isn't the right fit for me, though, and combined with some personal stuff, that's caused a depression and my grades have dipped. (I have two C's–in chem 1 and physics 1). I'm deeply considering transferring to another college or university, though it wouldn't be anywhere near as prestigious, as my first semester's grades would definitely hold me back from transferring to a school that's on parr with mine. Things have, however, been starting to get better. I've been seeking help and that's helped me refocus on school.
The pros of transferring would be, of course, that I could have another chance at getting a higher GPA, and retaking chem and physics so that I have a much more thorough understanding. (I know that this year at college would be on a transcript that would follow me around, but I could have a more thorough transcript from a new school that wouldn't reflect my performance here). I would also be able to have another chance at being happy at college.
The cons would be losing the prestige of my current college's name, and having to readjust to college life all over again. If I didn't transfer, I was thinking of taking chemistry and physics over the summer. It wouldn't count for my GPA at college (my college doesn't accept retakes unless you've legitimately failed), but it'd be nice to get a better understanding and to have something to show that I did improve in it.
What should I do?
