Hey guys, been a long time since I've made a post, but I'm still pretty clueless 😳.

Right now I'm still attending a local community college and making good grades... my question is, when I transfer to a university to complete my prereqs other than the basics, should I transfer to the school I hope to enroll in eventually for vet school? What are the advantages to this?

I was looking into maybe going to MS State...

Thanks!

I'm not sure about MS State, but I know that I have had mixed feelings about not going to Texas A&M (my IS vet school) for undergrad.

The good things about that is that there weren't as many pre-vets at my undergrad school as there are at Texas A&M. I feel like that may have taken some of the pressure/stress off, because I imagine the environment may have felt more competitive at the school that actually has the vet school.

On the other hand, going to a school that has a vet school also exposes you to more opportunities such as pre-vet organizations and first hand advice on maximizing your chances of vet school acceptance. I often felt like the advisors at my undergrad school didn't really know what they were talking about when they gave me vet school advice. I'm sure there is also a better camaraderie between fellow pre-vets at a school that has a vet school, because there are simply more of those students.

Either way, vet schools usually don't care about where you went for undergrad, as long as the school is reputable and offers the pre-reqs you need. It just depends on where you will be the most comfortable.

Transfer to a school that offers a learning environment that you will perform well in, whether that means it is lab oriented, has clubs, or small class sizes. Figure out what you need to learn well, then look for that. That will be more important towards doing well and gaining good LOR's than whether or not it has a vet school.

Who needs a pre-vet club when you have SDN?

Ditto on choosing a school that you think you're going to do well in. There is only one school in my area that has a "pre-vet program". I visited the school twice and just hated the atmosphere. The only thing I would have gained would be more LA experience... but the competativeness would have driven me crazy.

Totally agree!

As far as transferring, I agree with everyone else, choose the school that fits your learning style (and budget) the best.
