Anyone knows of any schools that take 3rd year transferee's without the requirement of MCAT. I am in a coombined B.S/M.D program and the MCAT was not a requirement. I need some info. I know Emory and Northwestern do not look for it in their transfer apps--any others? Please advise--thanks.

Out of curiosity, why do you want to transfer/get out of the program?

I don't feel like the education and clinical experience is upto par with the tution I am paying AND more importantly, with other medical schools. I am in my 2nd year and we start rotations this yr--so I had FP this month--and it was so worthless. It is taught at one of the afilliated hospitals, not our primary teaching--but I felt like I was shadowing the resident--I hardly got to do anything--no H and P's--it was ridiculous. I am so dissappointed by the way some of the things are at my school--even tho our clinical experience is supposed to be immaculate, as we have been in outpatient medicine clinic (1/week) since our second semester of actual med school. I just feel like I am not learning anything, primarily because people in this rotation aren't tru academicians--not really interested in teaching--I felt like I was the lilttle fork that was following the resident around--no one told me hey we got a patient, let's go--i got up and followed her--it was a horrible experience. I hope my other rotations this year aren't so bad.

Hey Boss, you will never learn to think by following a resident around all day. You have to learn on your own and ask the resident to evaluate you
What is stopping you from going on the wards and taking histories and arriving at a differential?
Then go to the charts and compare what you found and missed.
The resident would be more than happy to critique any short or long case you present.
Try that out before you decide to bail on your school.
What happens if you transfer out and dont like the new school?
Do you have a compelling reason to transfer?
MCAT, why not just write it-after finishing two years of med school the test should be more than a joke for you!
Anyways, I hope you try my suggestions and see if they work!
Best of luck Boss!

What school is this at?

I am sorry, but I do not feel comfortable revealing that. In any event, my school is not part of AMCAS as it is not a traditional med school-- I am in a combined program. Hence, it should not be relevant to your application process.

Then my guess is that it is also not the type of school that many would be likely to accept 3rd year transfers from.

well it is not part of AMCAS because it is primarily a school with combined degree students, with very few traditional applicants. That does not make it any less of a medical school as it is an LCME accredited, U.S allopathic school. AMCAS does not include many of the traditional schools which have combined programs--it only lists 4 year medical school programs.

from what i've heard, transferring is tough and you need very compelling reasons to do it. your reasons don't seem like they would be enough.

also, the info you've provided already makes it somewhat clear which med school you attend.

coo--however, i don't think that's an adequate answer for my initial post in this thread--thanks for the input though
