hello all,

i doubt this will get a solid hit, but i am hopeful . . .

anyone out there currently in a US medical school that got there after they transferred from a caribbean school?

I am currently in the process of getting LOR put together, etc. I will be done with my second year in december and I plan on taking the boards mid febuary to make sure that I make all the deadlines.

Ideally i would like to send out three or four applications to schools that take non-LCME accredited transfers. So far i have Tulane and New York Med College in mind. I believe they have taken SGU students in the past and i interviewed at both schools. So that leaves me short a couple more schools.

Anyhow, if the above applies to anyone, or if somebody has some helpful insight, i would really appreciate eliciting some details from you.

I am in the process of trying myself right now into Tulane, to repeat 2nd.

I know the deadline has passed for this year already. Im not sure how it will work next year with step 1 just yet since I'll be taking my step 1 exam in febuary if Tulane doesn't work out this year, which I don't think it will.

I know that the deadline is late march, I think. There are a lot more schools that look at foreign transfers once you have taken step 1. Some require that you go back and repeat 2nd 😱 even though you have taken step 1. Any school in Penn does it because I think for state licensure, they require that you do 3 consecutive years at the same school in order to be licensed in that state?

hope this helps some. I will be aiming for private US schools since I believe they'll be more inclined for people to fill vacant slots than a public school would be.

i guess that i will have to look into issues for state licensing as well . . . i imagine that there are ways around some of that stuff. i am not really sure where i want to practice though, so i will most likely work around any restrictions. i am from alaska and i know that i won't be practicing medicine up there . . .

would you be willing to repeat school even after passing the boards? personally i would not feel that bad about having a degree from sgu, plenty of the graduates from here are doing well. so the only way i would transfer is if the school allowed me to start in third year. anyhow, thanks for the response.
