after a semester of Ws (& 1 grade) at the hard school ... to be closer to my family .... rest of grades are As .... will this severely hurt my chances (she can't do the work)?

WHAT?? could you write using sentences please....?

I dont get it either.

The thread topic made more sense than the content of the thread. Maybe it has to do with transfering from a difficult university into an easier one in order to get better grades?

she spent one semester at a hard school, where she withdrew from all classes except one. She then transferred to another school where she could be with her family. Thereafter, she received all A's. She's concerned whether this'll reflect poorly on her, whether her cop-out at a hard school (with strong indication that she could not handle the academic rigor of a top school) would undermine the 4.0 she received at the easier school.

...and to answer her question, we've seen worse on this forum. You gave a top school a shot, while these commy college folks never did.

Thank you studentdentist!
lol btw its called shorthand to get the main msg across.

its in
what? .... why? ... extra details .... final question form.

anyway yeah well it wasn't any undergrad school, it was like a top 20 school. like top 3 public school. not that it matters but i believe i'd be able to do fine at an undergrad school (that's not as "top ranked") closer to my family to help with depression and stuff. although obviously that doesn't look good, i'd be happier, but thanks studentdentist for your fabulous input 🙂

What schools? Please only use the acronyms for the schools, no need to write them all out, that would just be just extra details. 😛

Samurai,
I was in a similar situation. I had to withdraw early my first semester at UVa to be for my family. I enrolled at a small 4-year college to commute and be at home; I decided to stay after one semester. If you are honest in your personal statement and your interview they will understand. The worst outcome from your situation is that you do not speak of it at all; that is when the really tough questions are asked.

Oh wow, same school I'm going to now Dan! I didn't want to mention it cause I know so many people are in love with the place but yeah it's depressing if you have no fam around, friends just don't quite cut it. So you definitely think I need to bring it up? Thanks for the advice 🙂

lol, yeah Dan mentioned the school name and exactly what I wanted to do, just go to a 4 yr university nearby instead.
