So I have a unique situation I was hoping someone here could shed light on.

I am a 3rd year medical student who was at USUHS, the military MD school. 2nd year I had a rash of family tragedies and developed severe generalized anxiety disorder. Though I managed to get it under control, the military forced me into medical retirement since they were concerned about my ability to deploy to warzones in the future. Because of this I had to leave USUHS having completed 3 years of med school minus 1 rotation.

I'm applying to transfer into a civilian med school but there are few slots and so I was wondering if it would be possible to transfer into a DO school to complete my training.

my stats are as below.

undergrad GPA: 3.97
MCAT: 34S
Step 1: 192
Step 2: 219
Year 1 med school gpa: 3.8
year 2 med school gpa 3.7

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

You would most likely be set back quite a bit since any D.O. school would, at the very minimum, want you to complete the OMM curriculum from 1st and 2nd year and sit for COMLEX 1 and 2....depending on the school you may have to complete other requirements or repeat years.

A transfer could also be a touchy subject since DO schools want students who identify with the whole DO philosophy and probably won't be chomping at the bit to take on a student who is just trying to find the path of least resistance to become a doctor (no offense meant, just trying to show you the mindset you will be up against)

For these reasons you would probably be better off trying to stay in an MD program, but I guess it wouldn't hurt to make some calls.

Sorry to hear that OP

Try to remain in an MD school, it's much easier for transferring.

There are several MD schools that are more open to transfers than others. Consider your state school. Also look into Drexel, Georgetown and hopefully someone else can name a few more transfer friendly schools.
