Has anyone heard of successful transfers in integrated PRS programs? if there were to be openings (which I imagine are rare), is there a place they would be listed? I tried FREIDA but that website is so out of date it's hard to use. I saw that on other threads potential "swaps" exist, but maybe PRS is so small that again this woudn't be useful. Any advice would be appreciated.

Integrated positions do open up occasionally, but not nearly as frequently as General Surgery. I think the best resource would be ACAPS -- American Council of Academic Plastic Surgeons. Not sure if APDS would have the listings. But WS is correct, those positions are usually filled by word of mouth.

Thanks for the help. It seems like there may be situations where integrated residents want to take a year to do research, but are discouraged from doing so because of staffing concerns, etc. If they knew of someone interested in filling that gap it may then be possible. I agree with you guys though that word of mouth is probably the only way that would work out.

It has become more difficult to bring someone into a non-PGY 1 position in Integrated Plastics. The required rotations for Plastics are pretty different than Gen Surg -- my program had to deal with this a few years ago and we had to add on eight months worth of rotations that the new guy needed to get straight with the RRC.

I imagine that would be pretty hard, luckily I am already in an integrated PRS program so hopefully my PGY 1 rotations would be pretty similar, but from what I learned on the interview trail it can vary a lot. The possible transfer would be for personal/family reasons. Thanks for all of your help!
