How hard is it to tranfer from one vet school to another? Specifically from Australia to the US/Canada?
I'm looking into transferring into UPEI (if they even allow it). Anyone have any experience with them? Do i have to be a resident of PEI in order to apply?

Thanks!

I know some schools in the US allow transfers under specific circumstances, but I think you would have a very difficult time transferring from Australia due to the differences between the 5 year BVSc and the 4 year DVM program. Are you already in vet school?

You only have to be a resident of the Maritimes (Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, PEI, Newfoundland) to go to UPEI if you're Canadian.

If you're applying as an international student, I think they may have several spots open...although I don't know about transferring (or advanced placement).

Try contacting Jack MacDougall. He's the Admissions Coordinator for the UPEI vet school. # (902) 566-0781, email [email protected]

Good luck! :luck:

got the response. don't need to be a resident of the maritime to be considered for transfer admission. Just depends on what seat is available (if its an Atlantic or int'l). They'll give preference to those applicants, but most of the time it turns out that the seat is open to just anyone. Mind you it's still really hard, since someone has to drop out and they consider all your uni courses ever done. Obviously more emphasis on your vet sci stuff. I think i'll have to do at least 2 years in Oz, before thinking about transferring. It's also dependent on whether i like Oz, and decide on just completing the whole degree there!

Wait...you mean it is possible to transfer from Australia to US vet school?! Sweet...I want to transfer too!! Is it still possible if I am currently studying undergrad vet in Australia?

This thread was specifically about a Canadian vet school, actually, not a US school.

If you want to transfer from Australia to a US vet school, you'll need to contact the admissions department at the US school specifically. I suspect that every school will be different in whether or not they accept international transfers and under what circumstances. I also expect that transfer positions will not be easy to come by, but it wouldn't hurt to contact the schools you're interested in.
