Any advice/recommendations concerning the following would be greatly appreciated. I am currently a first year resident at a well known/respected allopathic emergency medicine residency program but believe that I might be a better fit for the family medicine specialty. Could anyone give me an idea on how realistic it would be to transfer from EM to the FP specialty and the steps that I should begin taking to make this happen. Any information regarding if my PGY-1 year would be counted toward a FP residency or if I would have to repeat my intern year would also be appreciated. I know people have transferred programs in the past but I have no personal connections to anyone who has done this. Any advice from someone who has gone through the process or residency directors would be ideal. Thank you for your time.
