Do we get any context? Is a program claiming to be both? Or do you just want to know what the two words mean?

Sorry. In applying for a transitional year, some programs have it listed as transitional-preliminary and some have it listed as transitional-categorical. And some have it listed as both. I was wondering what the all this meant.

Anyone have any idea what this means?

It means a prelimary position where the program director will still have a hissy fit or look hurt when you decide to reapply to the match the next year.
