Transitional year inn Chicago

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I've heard really good things about MacNeal's TY year (good hours and really good teaching, working with IM residents from U of Chicago that are super smart). And Evanston NW has a really cush prelim IM year. I'm an anesthesia intern at the U of C and so we spend some months at Weiss Memorial, which has a pretty cush TY program, but I can't really recommend it as the teaching and quality of the role models are both quite poor. The ICU is a particular disappointment compared to the ICUs at the University. You could also do a prelim year at the U of C. It's hard, but you'll learn a ton.

Evanston Northwestern Healthcare is where I did my internship. Very little scut, lots of teaching, great benefits, nice facilities. The program director is one of the nicest and most helpful people I have met. I would do it again...one of the best years I've had. You can live in Lincoln Park and drive the half hour to Evanston if you want. It is pretty competetive. My class was made of derm, rads, er and anesthesia residents; all very smart and hard working. Although it was one of the more cush internships in the city, I felt prepared just fine to start anesthesia. www.enh.org

I have a friend who was at St. Francis, he enjoyed the year tremendously. Best of luck...

which one are you talking about when you refering to resurrection? cuz resurrection I thought is a hospital system, comprised of st. francis, westlake, west suburban, and one other. Actually, there may be one called resurrection, but not sure about that.

Either way, I think if you are planning on doing a 'transitional' year any of those community programs would be cush.

Resurrection Medical Center, on Talcott, in Chicago. The main one.
