Translocation terminology

For

t(1:2)(x:y)

is the translocation a piece of 1 onto 2 or a piece of 2 onto 1? Or can it be either?

I think they're just written in numerical order. If it's a reciprocal translation, all that's happening is a swap of a material between the two chromosomes.

Thanks for clarifying, so is the 8:14 translocation is the c-myc switching with IGH on 14? and 14:18 is the bcl2 translocating to where the IGH on 14 is so in both cases these translocations are being heavily upregulated because of IGH? i dont even know if that makes sense

I'm pretty sure that is correct.
