I just wanted to get a feel for what people have done for transportation during away rotations. Some places have great public transportation but others do not. Any thoughts or recommendations?

My own two feet.

Subway, Metro, Bus, Train, Cab, Streetcar, Feet.

If you're in a place where you can use your own car, you shouldn't be asking the question.

If you're doing a meaningful away, chances are there is legit public transit

First find out where you'll be going and then figure out the available options. Having a car would definitely be the ideal way to go, if that's an option.

Another option is to find out if the hospital has a shuttle service and just live within walking distance of the shuttle stop. That's what I'm doing for my rotation at UCSF
