Hi,
This is my second post to this forum. I only joined recently- I am an IMG from Egypt and have applied for the match this cycle. I had 12 interviews which went fairly well. With the travel ban, everyone is confused. Though Egypt is not on the list per se, it is one of the "possible" ones in the future.
My predicament, however, is that I am a dual citizen of Canada-Egypt. Would it be wise, or ill-advised to email all the PDs informing them of this information as it is not highlighted in the ERAS application? Canadians should not have visa issues I presume. Or would this exercise be futile and cross lines? I could word it in a way where it touches the issue but is at the same time not overt and political- which seems hard.

It is such an uncertain situation, and the worst timing imaginable. I have invested everything into this process, and just as rank lists are being finalized this happens. I would really appreciate any advice. Thank you so much!

Sorry, I'm not an expert in such matters, however being a Canadian-Egyptian dual citizen shouldn't cause you visa issues currently (H-1B I presume), but the future visa restrictions are unknown. My advice would be to proceed as planned and keep your hopes of for matching. Sorry this is happening for you, best of luck.

Thank you for the encouraging responses. I really appreciate the input- it is a very hard time. I know a few people I befriended coming from those countries and they are absolutely beat down right now.

My question is, even so, do I tell the PDs? This information is not in ERAS. ERAS application only says if you're a US citizen, or a foreign alien residing outside the US.

@oldbearprofessor: I understand why you would say not to send such an email. But in such uncertain times, would sitting idle be okay? If I think like a PD, would it comfort me to know someone I'm ranking would be able to join rather than not?

Thank you!

No one knows what may come down but my advice would be not to send such an email to PDs.
Can you give us your reasoning for why you wouldn't send this information to the PDs, considering that they don't know anything about your citizenship status other than the place you were born? I think it's very pertinent, and I know a lot of my friends told me that when they told the PDs during interviews that they were a citizen of a country other than where they were born, the PDs were surprised. They don't really know your citizenship. Only where you were born.

I do not think that anyone knows what will happen with dual citizens, etc of various countries. I don't expect PDs to focus on this issue for this year's match and see no reason to bring it up, especially when Egypt has not been listed as an issue for immigration authorities at this time. I defer however, to each person to make their own decision about this given the volatile nature of the current situation. Certainly, if asked, then it would be reasonable to explain the dual citizenship situation.
