Hello everyone, I could really use some advice on a situation I am in. This is my first thread post so please take it easy. I also do not mean to offend anyone with this question.

To lay out my dilemma:

I have an interview scheduled with Wright State Boonshoft on 1/22. But, I also work at the hospital from 630a-7p, with no call off-days available. Additionally, I received an interview invite from The Ohio State University for 2/10 and informed my manager that I will need to call off for that day because I have been really anticipating hearing back from my alma mater, so there is no way I am missing this. I am afraid to reschedule either because I already had to reschedule the WSU interview once because of work, and should have informed my manager of the date as soon as I did, but I do not normally work Wednesdays so I assumed I was in the clear. I now need to determine if it is "worth it" to call off for 1/22 and possibly receive corrective action for doing so for 2 days.

I have completed 4 interviews and received an A at UToledo and I have been very excited about it/saying that is where I am going because the interview was great and the program seems just as awesome with one of the lowest tuitions. Maybe I am rambling now, but what should I do. I am unsure how Wright State compares to Toledo as a medschool/ranking, and normally never pass up any shot I get especially considering my stats...but I feel like if it is equal or below Toledo I do not want to call off work for it ugh. I know that OSU ranks above both so it was easier to make my decision/it is farther out than WSU which is next week, but would this be dumb of me?

I think the question you need to ask yourself is this: Is there any chance you would go to Wright State over Toledo, should you not get into Ohio State? If the answer is yes, do what you can to keep that interview spot or reschedule it. If the answer's no, then cancel the interview entirely and just take the time off for OSU

Is there any chance in which you will attend Wright State over Toledo? If so, give notice to your supervisor and attend that interview. Your priority should be your future (being in a more desirable location, having less debt, being better positioned for a residency of your choice, etc.) and not your supervisor's convenience. They will survive without you. But if there is no chance that you will attend Wright State over Toledo, then cancel your interview there so that someone else can be offered that interview spot.

Outside of Ohio, UToledo and Wright State are around the same 'tier' in my opinion. Just my thoughts.

Can you see yourelf being happy at the U of Toledo? Or is there something about it that you really don't like? If you are solely dependent upon yourself for income, I would take the acceptance and run with it, rather than risk corrective action.

If you have savings and don't think that it would be too tricky to get another job, then risk the corrective action. Idk. There is some wiggle room with this, but I'm a little confused about what is so bad about the University of Toledo.

Like you were saying, YOU need to determine how important your job is to you vs. potentially living off of your savings vs. how easy it may be to get another job vs. how unappealing U of Toledo may or may not be to you. Sorry if I put any words into your mouth. I hope that you make the right decision for you.

You have an offer and you are leaving to start medical school in a few months. You're excited to interview at The Ohio State University (of course you are!) and with this much advanced notice, I would hope that a supervisor can find alternative coverage (what would they do if you were taking the day off for funeral services? or a broken leg?)

You are leaving in a few months anyway. What are the repercussions of being written up for taking two days off (unpaid, I presume)?
