I just wanted a recommendation on whether is would be better to take trig or pre calc first. will one prepare me for the other?

don't you have to take trig before precalc? At my high school the order was alg II/trig, then precalc, then calc.

I went to high school overseas and due to a lack of skilled teachers math wasn't prioritized. So since being in the United States I have taken (in college) elementary algebra, intermediate algebra and college algebra. I have to take trig to take physics and pre-calc to take calc I and II. Trig has a lower course # at my school, (1114) whereas Calc is 1140 so I assume that i should take trig first, but was unsure. Thank you for the response!

pre cal is mostly alg 2 and trig.
I took alg 2 and trig then i am taking calculus with out ore cal.

So you'd recommend trig first right? I don't have an "alg 2" option, i think my pre-calc is basically alg 2.

yes, i would would reccomend trig if you are gonna do whta i did and skip pre cal. but, if youre going to take pre cal, trig isnt needed. at our school the second semester of pre cal is basically all trig. hope this helped..

I think you got to take trig first then precal. Well that is how my school have them in order. Most of the stuff you learn in precal is carried over from trig. Just make sure you get the trig stuff down well because when you get to cal 1 there is some trig. Cal 2 also have trig. Trig is also helpful in solving some physics problems.

Even if you didnt "have to" take trig before precalc, you definitely should, precalc has alot of trig in it, its basically trig and college algebra mixed together to prepare you for calc.(in a way)

I took prepalc after college algebra in the summer, just finished 2 days ago. I thought it was a really easy class. So just skip trig if you can, go straight to precalc, you'll save some time. I don't know why they require trip for physics, it's usually calc.

It trig before pre-cal. I think you should take trig, it will probably help you since there is trig in pre-cal. It will also benefit you and prepare you for pre-cal.

trig before precal!!!!

that's what I did and it made pre-cal a piece of cake

Trig it is then. Thanks to Everybody who responded to this post, I was originally signed up for pre calc but switched to trig. For all of you who said skip trig, It is required for physics at my school, and I don't mind taking it if it is going to help. especially because i'd like to raise my GPA some more (currently a 3.3 would like at least a 3.5)

Good idea! The people who said skip trig might be really good at trig or already have some prior knowledge of trig. My precal class had a bunch of trig in it. I think trig is much harder since you have to learn all the identities plus angles.
