When should I trim the integrity crown so it doesnt get stuck on or locked on? Like take it off when its soft and pull off the stuff below contact points or just drill on it when its hard

One of my professors told me to take it out at 2 min and let it sit outside the mouth for an addition 2 min. At 2 min, it is set up enough to hold its form, but malleable enough to get it off without breaking/cracking. Letting it sit 2 additional minutes allows it to harden enough to then trim the excess and try it back on. I’m not going to claim that it is a perfect science, but it generally works pretty well.

I was told this by one of my professors as well and it’s given me good results. Wait for about two minutes so your provisional (I’m assuming is bis-acryl) is still a little soft but not so soft that you can deform it by grabbing it, then take it off. Let it harden and then place it back. It will make your life a lot easier rather than trying to take it off once it’s already hardened.

That is WAY too early to remove it. I highly doubt that the instructions say that.

Everyone swears doing it their own way. See what works for you. What I've found works well for me:

-Take a heavy body PVS triple tray
-Bleed the cartridge before putting on the tip
-From the moment you start filling the tray, keep time and take it out of the mouth at 1:20
-Let it harden a few mins, then trim off everything you don't need and try it back in the mouth

Couple other cool ideas I've seen if the integrity is getting stuck to the tooth
-Use a small round bur and drill 2 small indentations in the buccal/lingual respectively, this way you create undercuts so the temp doesn't get stuck on the tooth, and drill it off after it hardens
-Wipe down the prep/teeth with a little bit of vaseline and a brush
-If you're having trouble with getting contact, tear out the interdental PVS material with pliers so the proximal is overbuilt, now you can control the tightness and location of the contacts
-Use a fine diamond to do all your contouring on bisacryl
-Don't underestimate using flowable for small fixes

Are you doing this on typodont or real teeth? Been a while since I did my own temp crown, but when I have done it (on patients), I load the tray, put it in the mouth, and then I squeeze a strip of Integrity on the back of my glove. I keep checking that bit for firmness and when it gets to the point where it is doesn't separate easily when I pull both ends of it, then I remove the tray and start trimming with my diamond crown prep burs.

Real world experience here. I've been using Integrity for my temps for well over a decade. Love the material!

I will tell you that in my office (and my assistants make my temps and trim them) that from the time the integrity is dispensed into the matrix for the temp, until the temp has set (we remove from the mouth at the 2 to maybe 2:30 mark when when the material was dispensed), been removed, trimmed and polished is usually in the 4 to 5 minutes tops range. Trimming, as long as you have a GOOD matrix to start with, and have clean, crisp, well defined finish lines is often little more than just removing the flash past the finish line (I use a DEEP chamfer for my finish lines), and very often that flash can be removed simply with your gloved finger.

So much of the key to a quick, successful temp starts with the combo of the quality of your matrix AND having a prep with a clean, well defined, smooth finish line 360 degrees around!
