😕 Why do Barber shops have those rotating red/white poles?

Than answer is... 😉

They used to bloodlet with leaches.... the redpoles were the blood soaked cloths drying at the end of the day.

...in the middle ages, mind you

Here's another bit of trivia (although I'm certain most people on here know this). An adult human being, by the age of 25, will have 206 bones in his/her body. Interestingly, human babies are born with about 300. How can we account for the 94 bones?

RIGHT! Barbers were the first surgeons (middle ages).

Don't some barber shop poles also have blue on them? Did they also respond to cardiac arrest?

I didn't think it was really a surgery thing ... I think barber shop was where you were "bled" to rid you of disease. The above poster is correct in the red blood white bandages thing.

when did barbers actually stop doing all Medically related things-would you still find a barber /cupper in 1770?
