Trivial interview attire question for girls...

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Is it inappropriate to wear peep toe pumps vs. closed toed? I ask because my suit is all black and kind of hot and stuffy...my interview is in Florida. Any ideas?

I don't think that it would ever even matter most places that you go. If you were to follow our dress code, however, then open-toed shoes would require you to wear hose as well.

I wouldnt stress about this for an interview. Just wear shoes that make you feel good and are relatively comfortable. They wont reject you because of your pumps!!

i would say it probably doesnt matter, but this is a pretty formal occaision AND i believe just about all schools ban open toed shoes or have some sort of strong restriction (OSHA). good luck

Oh yeah...OSHA. They always ruin my fun. I think I'll lean on the conservative side for this interview...normal pumps it is.

Boo. Can we still have the palm tree picture?! .... 😀

I don't look good in a blazer/suit jacket. Are there any other acceptable ways to not have to wear one?

Thanks

I'm with you there...I hate the way I look in a complete suit. I don't plan on wearing mine during the whole interview day. As long as you have a nice shirt underneath with suit pants, you can probably just carry your jacket. That's my plan and opinion.

Here is my suggestion. It's cheaper than a suit, and way more fun. I have no doubt that the admissions panel will admire your originality and accept you immediately.

That's a good idea.

Where all are you interviewing so far? I've only got one lined up at Nova...but I am still working on my seconaries so I am hoping for more once they are in this weekend!

I'm pretty much in the same position..still working on secondaries/getting LORs together. I've got two interviews scheduled so far (WVSOM and LECOM-B). I hope to hear from Nova soon. Good luck to you in the process!

Woo hoo 🙂

TT - Issat one of those things that I will have to just paint on for the interview day? That stuff sucks getting out of chest hair... damhik....

i REALLY do not want to buy a suit. if i do, i will buy a skirt suit.. but i really don't like the look of suits. is it at all acceptable to wear anything besides a suit? i was thinking a pencil skirt with a very nice blouse/dress shrit or a professional looking dress. whenever i think of suits, i think of frumpy ones and i'm way more into fashion than want to wear something like that.. but i also don't want to be the only person NOT in a suit if its gonna be a bad thing...

also, do people ever wear high heels? or is there too much walking in one day to risk that?

You can make a frumpy suit fashionable if that's what your worried about. I haven't really ran into any bland suits that didn't look good on me.

i agree a suit can look fashionable.. if you pay the right price.. and i definitely think you can look as professional on something way cheaper. but i specifically don't like suits because it come off bland, uncomfortable, and unfeminine if you don't get the right cut. i'm gonna shop around this weekend but i have low expectations rite now =/

There's a whole discussion already on this...

From the interviews I have been to, you will be underdressed if you do not wear a suit. My last interview there was a guy in a shirt/tie/slacks that otherwise looked well put together, but when he was out of the room and someone mentioned him, the admissions director said "oh, you mean the guy that didn't wear a suit." Girl or guy, you don't want to be THAT person.

Just get it tailored and you'll be fine. I agree that suits can look frumpy but I think much of that can be helped with a good fit.
