So I have a bunch of elective/audition rotations slots from July to December, but literally every place I've contacted hasnt released the 11-12' application yet because they are still filling spots for the 10-11' school year. Is this normal? Most of them say they don't even worry about the next academic year (june and on) until April (or even May)!! What if all of the spots are already taken, since most spots go to affiliated institutions, and no visiting student spots are available by then? And no, I do not want to rotate at my own school's affiliated hospitals for my electives.

anyone else run into this problem? am I worrying too much or will there be ample time and open spots to setup electives?

Thanks 👍

Yes, this is normal. The general rule of thumb is 6-4 months prior to the rotation start you apply for away electives. It's going to depend on how popular that elective you want is.

Most bigger hospitals/univ have a website that spells out when and how to apply for visiting student electives.

Can you go private practice too? then you get one on one teaching. Try to think out of the box for your electives.
