Hi guys, I have a serious situation. I have just found out today that I am 2 units short to graduate and earn my BS in Biochem, and it is a month after i did my graduation walk. This 2 units, which actually should be 4 units of stupid social science general education capstone class, is required for graduation, and they did not tell me this until yesterday. I have been accepted to temple dental, and will attend orientation in 3 weeks or so. The total units i've earned is 184 quarter units, and i am okay in terms of science classes requirements. i read from temple website that the required number of classes needed for admission is minimum of 90 semester hours, which equals to 135 quarter hours, right? Do you guys think this will affect my admission to temple dental, since i do not have a bachelor's degree right now.

Thanks, any comments or suggestions appreciated

First and foremost, the most pressing answer is that you need to call Temple and get the answer from them.

Anything here is just speculation. Speculation would say that they *may* not let you matriculate, especially if they were counting on you having a degree. Speculation might also say that they *may* not care, especially if you explain the situation to them.

I'd urge you to call the school ASAP and get the real answer. Good luck!

Listen to Gavin when he says "don't listen to us". That's the only way.

A minimum of 90 semester hrs (90x1.5=135quarter hrs) is required for admission by every dental school. You've earned 184 quarter hrs. That's more than the minimum requirement so you're fine!
Unless your letter of acceptance has something like: We're offering an acceptance to our dental school pending the complete of your BS degree, then you're in trouble. I doubt it.

btw, if you'd like to get the BS degree. Take those social science classes at Temple undergrad (free tuition) then transfer those credits to your old undergrad to get your diploma.

oh, you really suck at math! 😉

hey, thanks for your advice Inn2, i dont think i suck at math, in fact, i used to tutor math for 2 years, calculus, not algebra. I am doubtful though 🙁 Well, the thing is, that social science class is capstone, meaning that it can only be taken at the school where i graduate/ will graduate from, so i dont know if taking it at temple will be okay and can cover the units needed.

are you a student at temple??

1: Can't believe your undergrad alama mater would not let you get those 2 credits via correspondence/on line since you will help their PR by becomming an "accepted to dental school" stat.

2: A few years back Temple had provisions for entering dental students who were short a bachelor degree to earn their BA/BS from Temple along with the DDS. Bet that is still the case. However, you might have to take more than 2 credit hours towards getting that degree.

3: I'd bet the farm that all will be OK. I seriously doubt that the folks at Temple will dump you because of a 2 credit social science issue.

4: Call Temple ASAP
