Trying to decide between Loma Linda and NYCOM. Any thoughts?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
My wife was New York born and raised, so I know a lot about the mentality of New Yorkers, they think they and that city is the center of the entire universe, its not. The fact she remains in Boston over a decade after leaving NY speaks volumes.

One thing I noticed about NY is that it has become very gentrified and yuppified, more so than any city in America.

I don't even live in the Northeast these days anyway, I am more partial to the Southwest and West Coast.

Of course, one person's experience about the largest city in America "speaks volumes" 🙄

The fact that she kept telling me how great NYC was yet she remained in Boston even after we split, she had numerous opportunities to go back home but decided to stay in Boston. Boston is a much better city when it comes to every day living.

NYC is so overrated.

Boston = worst city/citizens in US

NYC = best city in US

NYCOM isn't really great for NYC tho, it's a 1.5hr expensive hassle to get to and not something I'd guess med students would be doing routinely.

And there probably isn't a square public inch of it that hasn't been covered with body fluids at some point in the last twenty years.

NYC is kinda gross.

Its not that bad. Easy to go to on a Friday night.

I've lived in 4 of 5 boroughs. Fugedabout da Bronx. I remember the good ol' days in Times Square before it went Disney. Now it's all rich people, foreign and domestic, surrounded by big box chains. Sprinkle a few housing projects around to keep it real. The subways do smell of urine again after Giuliani left office. Get a postcard, watch this , but go to Loma Linda.

Lol, i was born in the Bronx. I would never live there, but no hating on any of the boroughs. Yes, even garbage island gets some love. We can hate on Long Island and the armpit of America(NJ) instead

20 miles away in ****hole land, only accessible by the LIE which is a big lie, coz its a perpetual parking lot and goes nowhere.

I have lots of rage about LI, can you tell?

Damn I can't imagine why? Its just the suburbs of the greatest city in the world!

You will lose this one. Take your horrid accents, craptastic weather, cheating sports teams, sucky food, and pathetic excuses for shopping and stay in MA. 😀

I put you on ignore because you are just silly in my book, but I saw what you wrote and decided to reply. You are just envious. The Patriots won, yep I was actually there to see it all. The Seahawks proved to be a bunch of sore losers.

Anyway back topic, if the OP wants to go to Loma Linda or NYCOM it is their own personal choice. That person might person might want visit both places and get idea where they want to go, then make the best out of it.

I think it really comes down to is OP comfortable with the SDA stuff. If it was me it would be nycom. However, OP has probably made up his mind already. Dis post is old

Didn't know people from the Midwest could be proud of world series titles won by the Yankees. Whoops!

A man after my own heart, who portrayed a favorite son from the Midwest:

I...just....no words.

@Mad Jack a little help here please?
I mean, it was a valid comment. If you are not originally from New York and/or did not grow up a fan of teams from New York, then you really have no reason to mention the Yankees.

(I will admit, I take sports too seriously)

Born here, lived here my entire life.
My other half is in the Midwest. The Midwest is a wasteland of soybean fields, corn fields, crappy shopping, "highly rated" steakhouses that I can't eat at anyway, and some incredibly...interesting....people.

Even as someone from Boston, I can respect that. As many fits as the Yanks have given the Sox over the years, they are one of the best franchises in sports history. I just can't stand bandwagon fans (which I know you are not, now).

I hate Boston with a passion. But I personally love the Yankees/Redsox rivalry, rivalries like that make sports great. Unfortunately the rivalry has been pretty dull in recent years. I want to see benches cleared and hay makers thrown!

Despite your hate, my favorite childhood icon was a Native born New Yorker, born September 25 1952 New York, NY:

I love the way this thread has gone, you guys are great. That said, after being in both cities many times and having many friends in both, I would never live in either. Give me random parts of CA any day (except right now, cause ain't nobody sending me to measles central right now). I also wouldn't mind my hometown, but I'm getting tired of these winters...

Boston as a city for the average human being is a lot more livable, New York is a city designed to cater for famous people, rich people and bankers, well all of them would classify as rich.

Boston is what happens when you pay for New York but get Philadelphia.

NYC is just a larger scale Chicago, but with the added smell of hot garbage, crappier pizza, and less corruption.

heh. my username is a direct reference to the fact I spent 4 years there.

Philadelphia has the highest homicide rate of any large city in America, worse than Chicago or Detroit. Boston is Disneyworld in comparison.

Last year there were 240 in Philly and 40 in Boston.

And I was only saying that New York is not the center of the universe, it has some redeeming qualities.

Woah buddy, i'd agree with with everything except the pizza. NYC has the best pizza sorry chi town. I've never had worse pizza in my life than Chicago pizza (exception to deep dish). I mean they cut a pizza pie in square pieces over there, what the hell is wrong with them. I'll never forget when people from Chicago asked me why we refer to pizza as a "pie" or "pizza pie".

Honestly I'm not fond of Chicago pizza as more than a novelty. New Haven and Detroit styles are my personal favorite regional varieties. But the floppy, "blot with a napkin" greasy late night drunk food they call NYC pizza is the Nickelback of pizza.

NY Pizza is a joke, you should go to Boston, because Boston makes pizza better than New York. Galleria Umberto makes Sicilian Pizza and Rice Balls world's above anything you can find in any Brooklyn tourist trap.

I have an Italian guy in my class from NY, and he even admits the quality of pizza in New York has went downhill a lot and its nothing like it was years ago.

Chicago Pizza is also better too, not the Deep Dish kind, but their thin crust and their hand tossed pizza is way above what you get in New York which is just over sized pieces of greasy cardboard.

I am a very proud Chicagoan, but for the life of me I do not understand the square cut pizza. Fortunately, if you ask nicely you can get pizza places to cut it pie style.

If you ever in Boston, try the pizza at Galleria Umberto. The pizza there is square, its also cheap.

Chicago pizza is the suck. Doughy disgustingness.

Edit: it is cute though, how Chicago thinks its a real, "big" city.

This just in: student applies to religious program only to be shocked by the presence of religious practices.
