NFL guys usually have such a short career and their pension is bad. They get around $600 per month per year of service. The vast majority get their rookie scale contract and then not much more than league minimum after that. They end up getting cycled out still for a rookie due to cost even with minimum salary. We are talking most are going to get $1800 per month after age 55. It is all on the NFLPA website. They don’t live much longer than that either. These terrible, huge quarterback contracts are outliers. The lucky ones get to complete their rookie contract, then have another 3 year very good contract then it is over.

Interesting…still I’d say even 5-10 million should set for life provided they invest well and don’t blow it all on mansions, hookers and coke. That’s the hard part for most of these guys

Mean salary is inflated due to the outlier contacts, about $4-5 million. Median salary is under $900k with an average career of 3.3 years. Plenty of pain docs make more than the guy who started tonight at QB for the Chiefs.
