I recently received a letter from TUCOM-Maire Island saying that interviews will continue until the end of June and that I COULD be invited soon. How many others received this letter? They said they started interviews late due to conducting the interviews for the Las Vegas campus last year, but I still thought they'd have most of the class full by now.

How do they choose who gets interviewed? Are all those that are interviewed considered strong applicants? or do they also interview pretty weak applicants. any help is appreciated.

thanks in advance

They announced the same thing on the school's website. I have no idea what they consider when choosing applicants. That should be something you should ask the adcom about.

Hope you get an interview! Good luck! :luck: 👍

Of 4000 applicants, 2000 get a secondary. Then they invite 375 to interview, and subsequently accept 180 for 135 slots. Comes to about 4%, the lowest of all the DO schools. They are NOT lowering their standards since the applicant pool is sufficient. If the class isn't filled yet perhaps the quality of applicants has been below average and they want to take their time filling the class with better students.
Although any people applying right now for class of 2009 would most likely be MD rejects who just want to get into med school. While they may raise the average stats, I do not want them in my class if that's their reason for applying. Sorry if this doesn't apply to you, bigtime.

sorry mastershake, but I really dont think you have the correct info on how many are accepted. 4% seems really low, maybe the OP should apply to harvard because he would appearantly have a better shot at getting in.??

Nope, 4% acceptance rate is correct:

The breakdown of numbers is the same as the one the Dean of Admissions for Touro gave during interviews. I guess those that get accepted should be really glad they made such a steep cut... 👍

yeah, i hope I get an interview. that would be sweet to go there. I am from the East Bay, so hope it works out. 4% is pretty steep.

yup, he has a better chance at ucsf too--6% acceptance rate. it just goes to show that getting into osteopathic medical school isn't as easy as it seems. it also goes to show that comparing apples to oranges can get you into trouble.

With interviews this late in the game, how much in advance are the offers coming (weeks, month, days, etc.), and by what means (letter, e-mail phone call???? Let me know what you think or if any of you've have recently received an invite this late from anywhere.

thanks guys

Depending on what TUCOM-NV says tomorrow, an interview slot may be opening up at Touro-MI. 😀

The 4% or 6% stats (etc etc) and the relative ease of entering any school is rather a useless argument, since the schools attract very different applicants... or perhaps i'm losing my finely tuned sense of humor (as this process is wont to make happen).

It sounds like you are wanting to go to Vegas... good luck there. Hope it works out for you.... and hope a spot opens up at MI. 🙂

I'll just hope I get some letter in the mailbox in the next month or so.

In the past few weeks I've gotten interview invites from Touro-LV, Touro-MI, and CMS. Touro-LV was via phone call (they told me my application was complete, and I thought that was odd that they'd call, but then they offered an interview. Elizabeth Cammarata in the adcom office was very down-to-earth and accomodating), CMS (rosalind franklin) and Touro-MI were both via snail-mail.

Just something you may want to consider, with interviews this late, is asking whether you're interviewing for a wait-list spot or a seat in the upcoming class... which may be a deciding factor on whether you want to put another airplane ticket on the visa.

Good luck!

TUCOM-MI is still sending out interview invites via snail mail. I was complete there on March 29th and received an invitation dated March 30th. I think they are trying their best to be effecient because of the late interview season. The letter asked me to call the admissions office to schedule my interview. They had an interview slot open on April 18th, which I couldn't take because I'm out of state and wouldn't be able to get decent ticket prices, etc. The next spot was on May 3rd. So I think you'll be looking at around 2 weeks in advance, but you do have some flexibility in scheduling. Hope that helps!

Yeah, I have an interview there on the 18th but I might cancel. I got a COMP acceptance yesterday, and I applied late. I was interviewed at COMP before my secondary was complete. I'd venture to guess Touro-MI still has some spots left to fill if they are interviewing through June.

Thank you everyone for the input. I hope everyone gets their top choices, or somewhere. It's a waiting game for me.
