Hey,

Tufts lists their interview as ending at 4pm. Can I make it to Logan Airport for a 5:55PM flight? It seems like the school isn't even 5 miles away. Unfortunately, this is the only reasonably priced ticket for me. Anyone know the area well?

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks

It might be possible, but probably unlikely. The main route to the airport from Boston is mostly closed right now....part of the tunnel to the airport collapsed (killing a woman) last month, and they *just* reopened one lane of traffic through that tunnel....so you're either battling to get in the tunnel or you're stuck in one of the huge detours. Plus, it's rush hour, which SUCKS in Boston especially now that they've had to close parts of the Big Dig due the the tunnels. It seriously could take an hour to go that 5 miles. *And* that's all counting on the Tufts interview really being over at 4, and not including stepped-up security....if there's a later flight, I'd take it.

With the way security is and any unpredictable delays might pop up (eg. your interview goes great and you DON'T get out right at 4pm) I'd say a 5:55pm flight is pushing it. You could take the 'T' to avoid traffic...but it will still take a while.

Boston traffic can be horrible. I wouldn't risk it.

IF you could get out of the interview exactly at 4 and hop on the train (orange line to state street, blue line to airport) immediately, you could get to Logan by 4:30 or 4:45. However, you still will need to get to your terminal on the shuttle bus, and realistically I don't see you getting to the check-in counter before 5. Is this enough to make a 5:55 flight?? Possibly, but be prepared to spend the evening at the airport bar.

Sigh. Thanks for the prompt responses guys. I'll give them a call tomorrow and see what can be done.

yes, I'd rather run than take the T. 😀

I think you can make it. The tunnels are up and running again. I certainly wouldn't take the T though. You'll never get anywhere. Taxi, Taxi, Taxi. Where are you flying back to? It might be possible for you to take a later flight from somewhere else like Providence or Manchester.

um... unless you rent a car, I wouldn't suggest manchester. a taxi would cost big bucks and would probably negate any savings you got from flying out of a smaller airport. only public transportation manchester-boston is Concord Trailways which would be a very roundabout way of getting there (T to south station, bus to downtown manchester (1hr with no traffic), taxi to manchester airport). I would suggest sticking with logan. If I were you, even if you do have a chance of making it, I wouldn't want to be anxious about missing my flight during the interview...

actually subway is your best bet. you will definitly not make by car, traffic is insane at that time. www.mbta.com, blue line or silver line, you might make it

I just interviewed at Tufts, and the interview day will most likely be over at 4, if not sooner. They way it works is they break you up into 2 groups. The first group had interviews at 1:15 and 2:45 I think. The second group had interviews at 2 and 3:30. I think they were broken up by last name. Because I'm at hte end of the alphabet, I was the second group. If you're in the beginning, you'll be in the first. If you were in the first, you could have left at 3:15. My first interview lasted about 10 minutes because the surgeon got an emergency page, but in those 10 minutes, I think it went well. He was definitly a character, very funny guy. Actually talked to him before my interview as well, guy had all of us cracking up. The second was 25 minutes. I was out the door by 4. I don't think the interviews went over for anybody really. But I would call the school and ask if there is any chance you can get put into the first group if you're nervous. The earliest you could get out would be 3:15, but I don't know how long the trip to the airport is.

given the traffic at that time, i'd say your best bet is to walk to south station (a little bit of a walk, but just ask for directions) and then take the silver line to the airport (underground shuttle bus). according to www.mbta.com, the ride from south station to airport terminals on the silver line is 15 min to the terminal A and 25min to terminal E at that time. the walk to south station will prob take 10min or so. trying to take a cab will prob not be very fast, but u can try it. gl!
