Tufts vs. ASDOH

Hello everyone 🙂
I am happy to say I have been accepted at Tufts. I also juat recieved an interview from ASDOH and I am not sure if I should go. I absolutely loveee Tufts, and theonly thinv that bothers me about it is the price of the school and how expensive boston is. fHowever, ASDOH, has the same price. It might be cheaper to rent in arizona though. Would anyone pick ASDOh over tufts? Is it worth it to attend the interview? what chance do i have of gaining acceptance? and which wrea is better

which area is better for software engineers working in IT field because thats what my husband does.

Phoenix and Chandler, both in Arizona and near ASDOH, have seen a lot of tech growth lately. Your husband should be able to get a job there. I would not go to Tufts. It is sooo much more expensive. Rent will be MUCH cheaper in AZ and so will quality of life. ASDOH provides good clinical experience and public health experience. Tufts provides good clinical experience, but isn't worth the outrageous price tag. Go to the ASDOH interview and pick ASDOH if you get in.

but im confused as to why ur saying tufts is more expensive? i checked online and both of them cost around 100k per year. Am i missing something? and why do u say the quality of life is better?

Cost of living in Boston >>> cost of living in Arizona

ASDOH is much cheaper. ASDOH factors in stuff like clothes, food, etc into their cost sheet. Tufts does not. Just going by tuition and school fees (no living expenses included), ASDOH is $270k. Tufts is $312k (I factored in the tuition increases that Tufts has). Living in Boston is much more expensive than AZ. Better quality of life in AZ because things are cheaper, more space, less traffic, less burden by living in AZ.

ohh ok, thanks for telling me, ill have to look into that. if i do attend the interview, what are my chances of getting in? i read somwhere that i have a 1 in 8 chance 🙁

Just interviewed at asdoh and loved it there students were extremely happy and housing is so cheap people lived <10 miles from the school.

700 for 2 bedroom apartment is amazing

I don't understand how cost of living could be the same in both places. Take it from someone who has lived in Boston--it's just not possible.

I don't know what Mesa, AZ is like but I'm certain that you will get more for your money there.

I just did a quick mini calculation with CNN's cost of living calculator and it's true. Mesa, AZ wasn't listed but I used Phoenix instead because it seems to be nearby. According to the calculator, on average groceries cost 34% more in Boston, housing is 84% more expensive, utilities are 50% more expensive, transportation is 7% more expensive, and healthcare is 30% more expensive.

I don't know how comparable to Phoenix things in Mesa are, but I'd guess they're comparable probably.

700 FOR A 2 BEDROOM?!?

You can get one bedroom living in an apartment with a few roommates in a town outside of Boston for that price. The apartment probably be located in a location where you have to walk 20 minutes to get to the T station. And utilities won't be included. Believe me, I know this for a fact. Housing in Boston is expensive.

In the end, you have to decide if living in Boston for four years and the experience you will have is worth the extra money you will be taking out in loans.
