Tufts vs UCONN

received acceptances to both this week, very torn. I am a Boston resident so get NE resident tuition at UCONN 1st year then instate for the other 3 years. However this also makes Tufts a very desirable option. Any suggestions? Tufts will cost over 400k while UCONN will cost around 280k

UConn. Tufts from what I hear is pretty easy to get into. UConn has an integrated medical school circulum and its pass/fail. UConn is also difficult to get into. If I was instate or a NE resident, I would without a doubt go to UConn.

UConn without a doubt. In my mind, I always held UConn to a higher regard than I did Tufts. P/F, medical school for two years, affordable, and a nice quiet location for UConn. Albeit both are good schools.

I have the same choice, but I'm probably going to go to UConn because of price, low student/faculty ratio, better reputation IMO, and better specialization rates.

It's a no brainer. UConn is the better school AND it's less expensive. You have the rest of your life to live in Boston (which, by the way, is only an hour and a half drive from Farmington.)

UConn all the way. You can do a lot with a 120k+ difference. Oh you know, like buy a house, a yacht, a down payment for your practice.

I like to add this because I feel that the "you can use this for purchases of prestige" point is made too often on these threads.

I agree 100% with KittySquared's point that this is big money not to be given away lightly.

I honestly think Tufts is the better school, but at the price different you should go to Uconn. 120k+ difference is nothing to scoff at.

I've wondered the same thing about Buffalo. I know most people get it, but I keep being paranoid that I'll be the one that doesn't, or that New York will do away with OOS people becoming in state.

UConn, and this is coming from someone who lives in the Boston area. Tufts may be better than UConn clinically, but it's a TON cheaper and has an outstanding reputation. From what I've heard, 3rd and 4th year of dental school (no matter where you attend) equate to about 2-4 weeks in private practice. Earn your degree at the cheapest price and go to a school that is very reputable (consistently considered to be a "top ten" dental school). I hope this helps and good luck with the decision!

Yes, for a fact it is guaranteed as long as you change your residency to conn when you move to start school. Also if u live in the northeast maybe u can get the new England resident price for the first year

That's great! However, I live in PA, so I will definitely have out of state tuition for the first year.

UConn is the easy choice here! 120K will actually save you over 200K when you factor in interest in the long run. UConn is also well established and well respected and has a proven history for producing great clinicians and specialists.

Furthermore SDN legend Bereno goes there... So that should carry more weight than anything else.
