hiya,
anyone know what the tumor maker is for a seminoma?Goljan says hcg while Kaplan says its PLAP??

hcg isn't usually used as a marker for seminoma....its just "sometimes" present....usually its for an embryonal (sp?) ie choreocarc or mixed.

if PLAP is (I'm guessing) plasma leuk. alk phos then I guess thats possible b/c of the usual lymphocytic infiltrate in a seminoma.....but it shouldn't be critical for answering a question

the level of AFP is going to be normal; ß-hCG and LDH may be at any level. So don't count on tumor markers to be definitive in your diagnosis of seminoma. Know the age group it affects (20-40?) and that it's the most common testicular tumor.
