Hello SDNers, thanks for reading:
After interviewing at both schools and hearing much about their COMLEX pass%/score, USMLE pass%/score and 2015 matches by specialty, I couldn't help but wonder if AZCOM is the more speciality-friendly institution.
Just from statistics alone, we see 70%+ students from AZ opting to take USMLE, while only 50% from TUNCOM do so. Now I am not entirely sure what to make of this in terms of each school's climate in pushing students for competitive residencies, and certainly most of the performance on boards is on the student him/herself.
TUNCOM also needs to address a more desperate need for PCP considering the 2 new med schools in the state are not yet established to take up the mantle. I could clearly see their thirst for medical graduate retention within the state and maybe even a slight nudge towards primary care all throughout the interviewing process.
AZCOM on the other hand promises ward-based rotations for GS (my current specialty of interest) in Mesa and Scottsdale, with obviously chances for audition rotations elsewhere.
Sorry for the terrible wall of text but I did try to parse it into legible points. I would love to hear from the community for their thoughts on my very naive and amateur opinion on both schools. Many thanks!
