Hi! I've been having a dilemma about where to invest my time this semester.

Tutoring a chemistry class - only offered in the Fall so I won't have this option in Spring, pros: $$$ (but not a lot), good review for myself to keep the info fresh, my advisor teaches the class, we're really close and I'm hoping to ask her for a rec letter one day

Auditing a Spanish class - can do this any semester, low pressure as it wouldn't affect my GPA, personal goal to get better at Spanish, I want to work in community health programs.

Any advice?

I feel like a Spanish class is good, but since you're auditing it's no different than doing it yourself. So, I would recommend against doing that. There are a bunch of ways to learn Spanish on your own and (assuming you're still in college) there's BOUND to be a Spanish learner's student interest group.

What I liked about the Chemistry tutor are
1) Money is always a nice commodity to get, especially when it's essentially helping to study for MCAT (more or less)

2) Tutoring is actually a strength, albeit an "icing on the cake" deal and not a game-changer, because you use the some of the same skills that you would as a physician. (i.e. teaching others, patience, breaking down difficult concepts into simpler terms)

3) MOST IMPORTANT, you said you could ask your professor for a letter of recommendation. I assume that you've taken a class with her before? (if you haven't this becomes less important).
It's a rare opportunity to have a science faculty to be able to comment both on your personal attributes IN ADDITION to your work ethic/academic potential. You'll definitely need a science faculty letter as a prereq for many med schools.
