1) The amount of a protein in a cell is regulated by the rate of

a) transcription of its gene.
b) translation of its mRNA.
c) degradation of the protein.
d) all of the above

2) Activation of translation after fertilization occurs by

a) synthesis of new mRNAs.
b) uptake of amino acids into the fertilized egg.
c) binding of an activator protein to the 5' untranslated region.
d) elongation of poly-A tails on mRNAs.

Can anyone please help me with these 2 questions? I would greatly appreciate it.

1. B
2. I would go with A. D is when copied DNA is coming out of the nucleus, during transcription, so the newly copied won't get shorten.

1.b
2.a

elongation of poly-A tails on mRNAs in happening during Translation (mRNA processing)
binding of an activator protein to the 5' untranslated region is initiation of translation
uptake of amino acids into the fertilized egg. doesn't make sense ,,
what u all think hun??

1. D and 2. A? not really sure about either of them... Where'd you get these questions from? Correct answers aren't provided?

1. D. Transcription of a gene leads to translation, therefore protein production. Degradation of proteins also contribute to changes in protein levels.
2. A I'm not sure why people are choosing D. Poly A tail only protects the mRNA from degradation by polynucleases (exonucleases).

I am 100% sure that the first one is D. Protein levels are regulated transcriptionally, translationally, and post-translationally as described in the choices. For example, if you want a lot of a protein you make more mRNA for it (or stop transcribing it if you want less). Affecting translation affects amount of the protein. The amount that you degrade a protein will obviously affect how much of it you have.

Not sure about the second question though.
