I am upcoming sophomore in the fall and I am starting late on the premed track. I am thinking about taking Gen Chem1 with Prin Physics (algebra based). Do you think it would be insane??🙄 Then I would take O-chem and biology in my junior year........any thoughts?

Absolutely not insane. It's typical to take more than one science class a semester. I never had less than two science classes at a time, and most semesters I had three.

Good luck.

Totally normal courseload. Gen Chem is pretty easy, Physics is a bit more work, but the fact that it's algebra-based should make it easier.

I'll be taking Analytical, Physics, and Anatomy....

... plus research and some business course

So, I think it'll be managable for you, go for it 👍

And I have added an ASL class and a phil (online)...

Chem 4credits
phys 5credits
ASL 4credits
Phil 3credits

16credits.......too much?

Medical school is entirely science credits! If you can't handle two intro-level sciences at once in undergrad, then it doesn't bode well for your ability to handle medical school.

As an undergrad, I took as many as four simultaneous science classes (physics, chem, and bio). Two was typically the minimum I ever took.

16 credits was the standard load at my undergrad. I went to school in the Twin Cities area, too, btw, but from the looks of your credits, it was not the same as yours.

Ugh. I'm loading up on 4 simultaneous this fall, for the first time. A&P, Orgo II, Microbio, and Enviro Chem.🙄 Not looking forward....but I wanna take enough science classes this year to raise my BCPM in case I end up having to re-apply.👎

That was my thinking at the time, too....the second semester of physics, biochemistry, advanced cell bio II, and a developmental bio seminar. It was quite the experience. It did help pull up that BCPM, though.

I'm taking 23 credits this fall in my grad program, so that'll probably seem like a walk in the park in a few months....sigh.....

Yeah.. 2 seems like a nice break to me! ha ha

I have Orgo I, biophsyics I, cell bio, and neuro next semester..

Yah, you'll be fine. Just don't get behind.

Also, if that avatar is your actual picture you might consider taking it down to preserve anonymity 😉👍

I feel you people. I once took Genetics, Virology, Human Physiology, Orgo I, and Biochem in one semester. I felt like tearing my hair out in the middle, but I survived. If I should take 16 hours in a semester, I would be so bored because I would have so much time on my hands.

well, 2 lab classes can be a struggle. i'm gonna be taking 4 upper level non lab science classes this autumn + research, I'm guessing it will be less course work than 2 lab classes. hm... good luck try hard.

heres my autumn quarter schedule

neurobio 3 cred
biochem 3
biophys (research) 3
math 3
inorganic chem 3

Oh I forgot to metion that I have a son, and home to take care of. So am not the average college student. I don't have the luxury of studying all the time and living at the library😀 I know I will have to take the path alot slower than the average premed student, I just don't want to get over my head. But it is interesting to see that alot of you all are taking 3+ science classes at a time.

I hope I can handle 2 science classes, lol! I am technically a freshman because I transfered with less than 20 credit hours from a community college. So, in the fall, I am taking Biology, Chemistry, Pre-calculus, US History, and Intro to Art. I am excited, but a bit nervous! Although, if I can't handle this, I will be in trouble in the future! 😕

There are lots of science and engineering major students who take five hard science classes at once.

It's more of a mental game and is all about time management, you can do it.

Are you seriously asking this? Most people take 4 science class with 1 humanities a semester in my school. That puts you at about 16 credits, perfect.

16 credits and 2 sciences is pretty common. I know at ETSU, my advisor wanted his premed students to take 2 science with 17-19 credits. They were thinking about having me take gen bio 2, gen chem 2, physics (algebra), and calc in the spring. I think that might possibly qualify as overload.

I think it's fair, it'll definantly keep you glued to the books...

Actually, I have P.Chem, Biochem, Bio II, and Physics II second semester, and oh yah, the lovely MCAT to study for... :meanie: Oh well, it'll go by fast
