My girlfriend and I are thinking about geting married either this year or next year. I'm currently an MS1. I was just wondering in general, do you guys think the winter break of MS2 or MS3 would be better?

I'm an international student so I'm under the impression that winter break of MS3 is probably more important for visiting residency programs and working in the hospital to impress the attending physicians? Is that even allowed? Can you volunteer and shadow beyond the scheduled 3rd year rotations? I'm thinking that this winter break is probably better b/c I probably won't start studying for the boards until after January? I appreciate your opinions. Thanks

P.S: this summer is out of the question b/c I have a funded research project lined up. Next summer will also be too tight I'm guessing b/c of the boards

Do it during M2 winter break, but not for the reasons you listed. You will be challenged and exhausted and stressed for most of M3, making it a poor time to also be focused on something as big as a wedding. You're right that most people don't truly start studying for step 1 until after the new year (some even start months later).
