1) What are the terms of astereognosis caused due to lesions of Brodmann area 3, and Brodmann areas 5, 7, and 40? Lesion to area 3 results in inability to recognize objects by touch, and lesions to areas 5, 7, and 40 result in inability to coordinate tactile and kinesthetic stimuli.
2) What are the Brodmann areas for the various agnosias and apraxias?

...and NeuroDr...and all other neuro people...

What is "asterognosis"? I can't find it in the Lezak Neuropsych. book but it sounds interesting

I don't have access to the books you mentioned Dr Snow, just a book on structural neuroanatomy by Richard Snell. Could you suggest some website where I might find my answers, coz I haven't been able to find luck so far on the web.
Thanks

Sorry I was on vacation, I was ill-prepared for a neuro emergency...I love this stuff.

In general, the term means formless perception

O.k. - the more you get into BD 7 & 40, the more you are into the angular gyrus and will start to see associated deficits of Gerstmann's Syndrome with dyscalculia, astereognosis (potentially), finger agnosia), right/left confusion and that is probably a better way to think about it. The areas in 7 can present with visual ataxia as well.

When you get into 5, because it has some reception cells as well as hand movement, you will see people begin to struggle with reaching and manipulating objects with the effected hand. Can co-occur with dorsal stream input damage (dorsal tract is V1-V2-V3-V5-Inferior parietal).

My guess, and this really is, is that 3 is going to present more with proprioception problems, since connections with 5 through 1-3 areas in the parietal lobe are more into body in space, or part of the body in particular in space.

Thanks a ton NeuroDr! That was brilliant
