Typical Neuro resident profile?

Hello all,
I was wondering what do Neuro programs look for in a resident. Do the USMLE scores matter? research?
Me - Step 1: 211, CK and CS pending. No research. Applying next fall.

Are you an AMG/US-IMG/FMG/DO?

If you're an AMG you'll be fine with that score based on the data. But it's a harder battle if you're an IMG/FMG and you'll need to have a strong neurology dedicated CV with plenty of research. Research is fairly important for applying to competitive top tier programs too.

Then you have to score as high as possible on Step 2 CK + first pass CS. Focus on creating a neuro dedicated CV + work on neuro research. Neuro is one of the most IMG friendly specialities but they look for people with dedicated applications.

I am a US-IMG (Caribbean) that just matched in my top 3 for neurology residency. My steps were mid 220s, 1st time pass. I applied to around 85 places across the country and got around 14 interview offers. I think it will be key for you to get some good contacts on your neuro rotation and get good letters. This is probably where I struggled as time was an issue with my rotation scheduling. I had a little research and one non-neuro related publication but it didn't really come up during the interviews. What if I had multiple research experiences but no publications? (a couple neuro related in udergrad) Will that still count as something, or close to nothing?
