U of Miami DPT interview

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Interviews are pretty laid back and informal. Dr. Hayes will probably give an introductory speech to the group. Afterwards, you'll be assigned an interview time with one of the professors that typically lasts anywhere from 20-40 minutes. You'll also get a chance to tour the campus and PT department. While waiting for your interview or in between the tours, there will also usually be a number of current students to answer any questions you have about the program.

Hope that helps. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

Good luck.

Thanks a lot!
any specific questions you remember?

Unfortunately, I don't remember any specific questions. I will say, though, that after coming out of the interview, I thought of it as more of just a "conversation" than a "formal interview." The professor just wanted to get to know me. I've heard a number of students say this as well. This probably wont quell any anxiety you have, but I tell this to everyone who interviews. Personally, I think the professors primarily look for personality above anything else. Don't get me wrong, though, they'll probably ask at least one stereotypical interview question. It may just depend on the particular professor you get. Oh, they'll probably ask you about your views on research. UM places a large amount of emphasis on research, so I would be prepared to answer at least one question on that.

tigers65 did you have that interview at Miami yet? What did you think of it? I just got an email from Miami today inviting me to an interview. Anything questions or info I should know about ahead of time to help me in my interview? Thanks and best of luck on your future PT endeavors.

Hey everyone, I had my interview on Oct 14th. It's very laid back and informal, but you still need to be on your toes. Has anyone heard anything yet? Any acceptances?

did they tell you how long it would take to hear back from them? I have an interview next week. Also, i heard that Miami interviews a large percentage of applicants. Did you hear or know anything about that?

I didn't ask anyone directly how long it would take, but I heard anywhere from 2 weeks after your interview till March. I did ask the PT admissions guy how many people they were interviewing and he told me there were 7 interview dates with about 20 applicants each.
