U of MN interviews

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I got an email about two weeks ago where they had a question about one of my courses.

No interview yet though.

are you guys MN residents?

I also got an email question about my coursework two-weeks ago...and still nothing...I am glad to hear I am not the only one who has not heard anything. Hopefully we will hear soon...I am OOS

I applied EDP at UMNTC. I interviewed earlier this month but I'm still waiting for further developments. *crosses fingers* There is a new admissions director, so I'm not sure if things have changed/slowed down due to the switch. PM me if you have any questions about interview day!

i'm a MN resident, they got my primary weeks ago, and still no secondary. did it take anyone else this long to receive it?

Dr. Becker isn't the Admissions Director anymore???

Ummm She sent me an email asking about my coursework two-weeks ago so unless it has changed since then I would assume she is still in the position.

If by two weeks ago you mean 5 weeks ago. She was the admissions director until Aug 1st I believe.

The new guy's name is Paul White, JD.

Good luck. As I understand it they accept a large % of the EDP applicants (as long as you met their EDP requirements of course). I would have applied EDP, but I ended up not doing as well as I wanted/needed to on the April administration of the MCAT.

do you all meet their psychology requirement?

do you all meet their psychology requirement?

are you talking about the 4 semesters/ 6 quarters of "Social & Behavioral Sciences, Humanities" requirement?

Thanks! It's scary to apply EDP, but I'm a older non-trad (32) and I really don't want to move. I live with my boyfriend who owns his own business, so we decided I'd just apply to the U this year. If I don't get in, then I'll apply all over next year.

I really want to go there as well, My wife has a great job here in the cities and living is is pretty cool too...always something to do, etc. From what I have heard, its really hard to get in if you're a caucasian male though. They seem to love URM and females though. at least that is what the Docs that my wife works with tell us.

Do any of you know when to expect interviews to start being given out for non EDP people...?

Has anybody heard anything from U of Minnesota-TC regarding interviews?

Hey I looked at your MDApps profile and I was just curious how many ECs you listed on your AMCAS?

Crazy I got this email from her August 24th

Dear Falco2525,
We have reviewed your course work on your Supplemental Application and do not see a listing for a Psychology course nor an English Literature course. Please be advised that these are required pre-requisite courses for our school. Please get back to me, by email, at your earliest convenience regarding your plans for completing these Admissions requirements. Also, please be advised that all pre-requisites must be completed by July 1, 2007.
Sincerely,
Dr. Marilyn Becker
Director of Admissions
University of Minnesota Medical School - Twin Cities

Actually I was wrong. She was Director of Admissions until late August.

I had my EDP interview on Sept 1st. Paul White had just arrived in the state the day before from Johns Hopkins.

U of MN interview would be a nice reward for filling out those special forms etc. 🙂

Here's an interesting (publicly accessable) link I found surfing the MED2010 link at the U of MN medical school website. It gives a little bit of insight into the admissions process for both schools.

That is a very interesting read. The article says a total of 4 LOR, does anyone know if 2 or 3 signatures on one letter from a premed advisory committee will count as 2 or 3 letters or just one.

has anyone had problems with U of MN's secondary website?

I haven't been able to access it to fill out my application all week (after being able to access it when I initially received my PIN). I left a voicemail in the Admissions Office the other day, but no one has gotten back to me.

Can anyone tell me how long it took for you all to get your secondary from the time they acknolwedged that they had received your primary? I got an e-mail stating they receieved my primary on 9.28.06 even though I was verified long before that...They're my #1 choice and I'm hoping they're just slow...
Thanks in advance!

They are notoriously slow...I was complete in early august got the secondary early september...and interview invite mid-october

I am a MN resident and it took them 6 weeks to send me a secondary so,, i just got it turned in..... hopefully the wait for an interview wont be that long!

was the secondary snail or email?
thanks!

Hey Monkey,

They are just super-slow. They acknowledged receipt of my AMCAS 9/6 (I was verified 8/23), and sent my secondary invite (by snail mail) on 9/28. I'd start worrying after more than a month has gone by. I'm in-state, btw.

Gotcha thanks Reverend!
Did you also apply to Duluth? I remember looking at your stats and you had a really impressive profile!

yep, Monkey12, I remember you, too -- I think we were being verified by AMCAS at the same time, IIRC. You had some problem with your transcript, though, right?

I sent my AMCAS to Duluth, but decided not to apply. I'm not THAT sure I want to practice in rural areas!

Thanks for the compliment -- as long as it's enough to get in somewhere, I'll be happy! best of luck to you, too.

You remembered! I hate AMCAS, I don't want to get into it b/c I'll get furious. How are interviews going for you?

Sorry to hear that it was such a trial. It sounds like you're back on track, though.

Actually, I haven't gotten any interviews yet. The secondaries took a long time for me to get through, since I was moving and starting a new full-time job all at the same time. Now they're all in (except at the U) -- I've been complete a week or two at most places, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I'll be invited soon!

I honestly think that UofMn is playing with my emotions. I have a 3.8/30 O and live in Minneapolis. WTF...just interview me already.
