Hi guys,

Does anyone have any info on the UAMS GS program on Little Rock, AR??

I know it's an old program and, form what I heard, you have to work really hard once in. The thing that caught my attention is that only about 50% of their graduates end up doing fellowships. Should I take that as a bad sign??

Any thoughts?

Why would it be?

What's wrong with 50% of the program's chiefs wanting to stay in Gen Surg?

Now if they all applied and only 50% matched, that's a whole 'nother problem.

Don't get me wrong. I don't think there's something wrong with staying in GS but, from what I read here, I was under the impression that academic programs residents (which I assume UAMS is?) favor the fellowship route over the GS practice in a considerable proportion.

The program page say something along the lines of: "half of our seniors opt to go for the fellowship route and we've got a good history placing seniors in all fellowships". Maybe my first impression is just wrong and half the seniors in this program just prefer to go GS despite being a university program?

What do you guys think?

(Oh! And if you have any other info on the program, it'd be great!)
