University of Colorado:
CONS:
UC Irvine:
CONS:
I really do not know much about the number of research opportunities at each school, although I feel the edge goes slightly to Colorado. I would definitely appreciate someone’s insight into this.
- Loved the school, faculty, and people during my interview day as well as during second look.
- Colorado is an outdoor playground.
- I feel like this is the more nationally-accepted institution of the two.
- Tracks that may allow an education more tailored to my interests.
CONS:
- Have to pay out-of-state fees, lCOA ~94,000 per year, but I did receive a scholarship for 15,000 this year
- Not as high of a STEP1 score average.
UC Irvine:
- Felt indifferent about the school in terms of culture, people, faculty, etc. (this is still a pro in my books).
- In-state tuition, COA ~64,000 per year
- Closer to home/family.
- Rather high STEP1 average
- ~ 70% match rate into California residency programs.
CONS:
- I really dislike Irvine and Southern California in general. Went to undergrad down here (and grew up nearby) and have always wanted to get out.
