I've run into a snag sending in my fall transcripts as my UC system school has told me mine wont be prepared until after feb 1 (due to backlog during furlough and non-operational winter break days) and that there is no way to expedite them because, well, they're the UC system and they don't really care about due dates.

Has anyone in the UC system run into this and have you figured out a way around it? I have my advisor raising hell and I'm trying to work things out with the schools I've applied to, but a few of the schools are understandably upset and are resistant to alternatives. I'm scared that I've put in all this work and it's all going down the drain 🙁

wow I did not know about this.. I submitted a request in early december to send transcripts and put a Hold Order until Fall 2009 grades were posted, and I assumed they would be posted soon and sent out... Are you running into this problem because you waited late to ask for your transcripts to be sent or did you submit a request a while ago like me?

I know we have a DPR (degree progress report) online, I wonder if you could send your schools a copy of this somehow to tide them over and then send official transcripts asap?

I submitted the form after my last grade was posted. I think like the 27th or so.

Most of the schools have been unhappy but ok with getting them a week or so late but one (that I'm pretty sure I have a good chance of getting into) is very unhappy about it. My advisor is offering to sign and seal an unofficial one, but I'm not sure it will be good enough. I hate that there is nothing I can do to help it along. I don't understand why we have no way to pay to make these things happen like every other school on the planet.

That one school won't accept a signed/practically official unofficial version for an extra week or so? That's crazy... I wonder if maybe you keep calling them and maybe talk to a different person you'll get a different answer? Sometimes some people are just more willing to help you out than others, and maybe you caught someone on a bad day at the admissions office? At the very least it'll make you feel like you're sort of able to do something?

And I think the reason we can't pay to expedite things is because the UC system somehow hasn't figured out that there's nicer ways to make some extra money than a 30% increase in tuition and furlough days.. although i'm not sure my UC is even doing furloughs, they just close libraries instead 🙁

Really? My school had 10% of our classes and labs cancelled. Random days off through the whole term. It's made me pretty worried about Davis tbh.

I'd seriously pay a sizable amount of money to get my transcripts. Raaaaawgh. I assume it will all work out eventually :-/

Keep pestering. Be polite, but don't give them a moment's rest until they agree to accept the late transcript, or, conversely, to send the transcript on time given your circumstances. It's worth too much to go down without a fight, especially for something so (seemingly) out of your control. If you have to go down over some crap like this, you damn well go down kicking, screaming, and bitching. :d

^This. In my experience with the UC system, the only way to get anything done is to sit on them until they do it - pester them constantly. I had to do this just to get my first paycheck when I worked there, and it still took them over a month. UC bureaucracy is out of control. A guy I worked with would actually sit down in people's offices and not leave until they had taken care of his problem. Ah, how I miss California... 👎

Keep bothering them. February 1 is really late to be sending out transcripts. For UCSD, they told you on the transcript page that all transcripts ordered while the university was closed (12/twenty-whatever through 1/4) would all be processed on 1/4 when the school reopened. So yeah, like everyone said, go bitch at them on the phone and even in person because that is ridiculous. It's not your fault they're backed up, and their job is to process transcripts on time (assuming you make the request early enough, which you did) so you can go to grad school.

I think my advisor and dept head have managed to push it through. I'm going to have to buy them all cookies. Apparently my school has only processed the grades onto the official transcripts yesterday, so they are super behind.

Dealing with the UC system is closer to dealing with french bureaucracy than anything else I've experienced yet in the US! What a nightmare...
