Hi guys,

Sorry to get repetitive. I already posted this under the pre-med forum and nobody answered me. Hopefully someone here knows.

I need to take 2 English classes to finish off my pre-reqs and want to use UCBerkeley extension (for convenience). I've been looking at the catalog of courses, but can't tell what classes would be good.

Has anyone taken an English class @ extension and have a recommendation of what to take or aovid?

I hope somebody has some suggestions! 🙂

i think you need to take one writing intro level course for at least 3 creds...but for the second one, check out the med schools you want to apply to and see if literature can satisfy the second course. i heard lit should be easier than taking a higher level writing course.

i have to take english 1, 2 as well. i am going to take first a writing and then a lit course.

good luck!

Thanks for the response AWK,

For sure am going to take a writing course for my first class, since I know that's necessary. For the second I want to do whatever is least painful. (I have Eng Lit AP credit from HS, but I think enough schools aren't going to take it, that I better just take 2 courses and be safe...)
All the writing class descriptions are vague enough that I'm not sure which to choose, if I knew a certain professor was great or horrid that would help. Honestly, I also want the easiest courses possible...

Good luck to you, too!

Yeah I'm kinda weary about AP Credits for the English requirement because for my major my AP English Comp credits went towards my free electives; not humanities.

I'm a dork and I actually want to take some humanities courses for a change...hahaha

😛

I go to UCB also, but I was thinking about taking my English classes at Vista CC. How do u think Med schools would look at that? I am taking 23 units next semester plus the 4 english units at Vista = 27units.

I don't go to UCB so I don't know what those credit numbers mean, but if you're taking a "full load" at UCB then taking extra classes at a cc should be okay. I wouldn't do science anywhere else, but seems to be that English should be fine.

23 units is more than a full load, its the max u can take without special permission from the dean. Average load is about 13-15 units.

I *think* the rule of thumb is that if you have a reasonable excuse for taking courses at a CC then it's ok. Is there a reason you need to cram english in this semester in addition to a max load at Cal? If you're doing it to graduate early or you have schedule conflicts etc then I think that's respectable. You just don't want to look like you're shirking from taking them at a regular school...

Yea thats true, the main reason I am doing it is bc i have 23 units and thats the max u can have without getting a dean's signature. Plus I live down the street from Vista.
