Ucd 2009

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I haven't heard a peep from any school in Ireland. Would love to have an acceptance letter in hand so I could get my finances organized but will have a to wait a while longer I suppose.😴

I just got my acceptance to UCC today🙂 I'm a Canadian. How does UCC compare to schools such as RCSI or UCD? I'd really appreciate any feedback. Thanks so much🙂

Haven't heard a single thing either. Stats: 3.4gpa of 4.0, MCAT 12P/8V/11B/R

I got my acceptance over the weekend from UCC, I am canadian.
Hold an H BSc and MSc from UofT.

My stats are: 3.3 GPA, 10V/11P/12B/O.

I am still waiting to hear from Trinity, UCD and RCD, has anyone heard from them already?

From what I hear UCD usually gives out their first round offers on st patricks day... which is in 3 days!!! I dont know about the rest of you guys, but since this is my first time applying for med school (i'm a high school student) and I am going absolutly crazy. I have been checking my e-mail like 20 times a day and the mailbox at least twice (even though i know the mail only comes once a day) AHHHH!😱 You know as much as I want to get accepted, I think i would rather know i was rejected early than have to wait for a waitlist spot till like a month before school starts... Anyways thanks for listening to my rant

I sent an email to ABP to ask about when we would start to hear and I was told it would be earliest end of March more probably in April. I was told they were inundated with apps this year. So, don't think you will hear by St. Pats day. :scared:

Thats a shame.... and to think we would start hearing results tomorrow. O well it just seemed to ironic for the results to come out on st patricks day anyways :luck:!!! Well here's to hoping that they don't get too intoxicated tomorrow and finish sending out offers!!!

So just wondering... let me get this straight. UCD accepts about 20 canadian applicants (i think i read that somewhere) It would be cool to know how many of those accepted to the 6 year program are straight from high school and what their high school averages are.

You know I have had to wait for a lot of things in my life... but this is prob the worst. Since I have nothing better to do I'll share a funny story or two about just how much I have been thinking about this.

So two nights ago, I dreamt that I got my acceptance letter in the mail, I woke up (but I was still dreaming) and then went to check the mail and it was actually there, so when I actually woke up at 4 in the morning I ACTUALLY went to check the mail.... nothing was there I felt pretty dumb.

So I have been talking to my parents and came to an agreement with them. If the letter comes while I am still in school, they agreed (as well my teachers actually ) to leave class and come home to check it!

Anyways I hope your wait is a little less painfull now that you know that there is someone else freaking out about this more than you😱

To help make you feel a little better, I was told by AB that they are taking 30.
Yes, the wait is interminable, hard to take.....

OH sorry, I just now noticed you said CANADIAN< I was told 30 from North America. I don't know if thats good or bad news

... I dont know I guess that could make sense 30ish sports 15ish maybe canadian I dont think they group us separately I think it is prob different each year. (not the 30 spots i mean the ration american/canuk)

FYI everyone UCD just sent their first round offers to ABP today so we should start hearing tomorrow or the day after!!! Here is hoping it's tomorrow!!!

pgouda, how do you know this? I called them just a few days ago and I was told end of March or early April? That's amazing.

um via email from UCD and I've been waitlisted...

wow! Does that mean these replies they are sending are rejections and acceptances? How long will you have to wait?

The reason I found out is because I am not at home right now, I am a few hundred km away. So I arranged with ABP to email me to let me know the results when the round 1 offers have been sent out. O well i am sort of confused though because i applied with a 95% average, great EC's and a really good essay. I thought I was quite a bit above the cut off line so I am really wondering what is going on, any insight would be great. Here is to hoping for round two offers. O and I dont think they send out pure rejections till middle april or so...

Hey pgouda, don't stress too much, you'd be surprised how much movement the waitlist gets.

UCD doesn't base things on marks alone. And the EC's they're looking for may not be the same as north american schools. In short, they look at things in a more all-round manner...there isn't any set "cut-off" point.

And for those wondering about the Canuck/Yank ratio...it's about 10:1 Canadians to US.

Ya I keep hearing that thanks! Um just curious are you attending that school or are you applying as well. Just a few things I do for EC's if any of you guys have any suggestions and what they are looking for that would be great...

1) I am a volunteer pilot giving flights to air cadets between 12-18
2) Senior volley ball player
3) Junior high volleyball coach
4) Hospital volunteer
5) Food bank volunteer
6) Student council gouvernement
7) Student Activist for Peace and Preservation
8) Mentorship Program
9) Tutor
Also recieved citizenship awards from two communities and leadership awards....

Sorta see my surprise 🙁

I just got accpeted into the 5 year program yesterday from RCSI.

Still waiting to hear back from UCD/UCC.

My deadline for RCSI is April 6th. Hopefully I hear back from the other two sooner than later. I want to see all me choices.

do you know if everyone will hear regardless of result, I don't understand these different rounds stuff, why do they have other rounds? Pls explain, why don't I know about this?

oh, never mind, I just went back and re read the admissions info.

Hey everyone!

I just got accepted to UCD! Has anyone else heard back?

what time did you get it? Was it a big package?

I was notified by email, but I live outside North America so that might be why.

4 year, graduate entry.

Congrats! Where are you located? Where did you do undergrad?

Just wondering if anyone knows if UCD will release how far (or close) you are on the waitlist? maybe after 2 round offers have been made and rejections have started to come out... Ideas anyone???

Hey everyone,

I recently got offers to both RCSI and UCD (which came today) for their 6 year programs...if anyone wants to PM me what school they went to and their experiences, that would be awesome.

peace, and good luck.

Now I have acceptances to both UCD and RCSI six year program from gr 12 Ontario. I will take RCSI

I got accepted to the 6 year at UCD...still not sure if I'm going...any advice?

Hey everyone, I just got my UCD acceptance today (4 year), but the ABP package didnt have anything in it about the curriculum and the website shows "stages" for their med curriculum which im not sure corresponds with their 4year program. So i'm just wondering if anyone who goes there/knows more about this could help me out?

I just got accepted into UCD yesterday....but I had absolutely no interview. Did this happen to anyone else?

there are no interviews of UCD. The only school that does interviews is RCSI

I believe Limerick holds interviews as well.

I received my acceptance to the GEP at UCD the other day...now all I need is a few hundred K and I'm set 😛

got accepted into UCD yesterday...big package arrived by mail. 😕 Dunno now what to do....SGU or UCD?!

Hey All ~ I have accepted my offer for UCD 4-yr. Just waiting to hear on an Ontario school first. Would love to know if others starting at UCD are planning to live in the recommended residence?

Same here, GEP @ UCD. Just waiting on a few US schools to get back to me. I e-mailed ABP and supposedly the Glenoma residences are for us, anyone have any more info?

Thanks so much, Zoe P!! This is exactly the type of info I was looking for. 🙂

My exact dilemma right there.
I feel your pain! But...here are my thoughts on it now:

I'm taking SGU because it will only put me in debt with 120K CDN ... not bad.... vs. Dublin would make me go into debt for 300K .... taking into account that I can rotate in the UK from SGU and that my EU citizenship won't go anywhere....I don't think I am gaining more by going to Dublin. I do ADORE Ireland..... this is the only sad part! But.. HELL with a great carreer I can fly to Ireland all the time with no worries 😛

Yeah my situation is a bit different here.

I am Canadian, meaning that I do want better prospects into Canada without barring myself from a "back up" country. I'm not completely sure on whether or not residencies in the UK is possible if I go to UCD, but I do know that getting residencies in the US would be easier in SGU.

There is also the issue that I am hearing some people telling me that getting electives in Canada is much easier coming from UCD than SGU, which helps increasing my chances into the Canadian system...

Looll...I am Canadian too...did you notice the CDN$ I mentioned 😛. Concerning electives Canada, I don't think it's easier from one place or another, it all depends on who you know, or how well you present yourself and talk to them. SGU is trying to get a toe in Canada and pushing for some cores to happen, they are hoping for them in 3-4 years. We'll see! Good luck with your decision! :luck:

Yeah, tough decision to be made here, that's for sure.

If SGU does push cores into Canada, it would put SGU over the top as well. Too many variables to think about. >.<

At least both are positive in it that I got in. lol

General Question to all who got accepted to Irish med schools for 2009 class - what were your stats? GPA and MCAT? What other EC did you have that you found to be quite useful.

I'm trying to get a baseline comparison for myself, to gauge my competitiveness.

ME:

Commerce Grad, Queen's University, Kingston - Canada
GPA - 3.49
MCAT (06) - 29R
Work exp - Ran my own small business for two summers. Paid off all uni debts, etc. Currently part of Management Trainee program hired through competitive on-campus recruitment.

Want to get back to my roots. Science and small business are my passions, and 10 years from now, I would love to be running my own small family practice in urban/rural Ontario.

I'd like to hear all of your thoughts, please and thanks.

Cheers.
