Hey Everyone,

With the deadline to accept fastly approaching, I figured I'd start a thread for those that are seriously thinking of accepting the UCD offer. For those people, what are you doing about housing? And are you planning on visiting the campus before the semester starts?

Cheers,
Jocks

P.S. Anyone hear from Trinity yet?

If you can afford it (and I'm assuming you can or else you wouldn't be going to ireland), I would definately visit dublin if i were you. I had never been over there before, and the visit made everything so much more real. i know everyone on here says dublin is so cool/ etc. but seeing for yourself is invaluable (then when you go over for school, theres some familiarity). It definately helped me "rank" my schools over there.

As for trinity. Mr. Nealon said last week that "they (as in trinity) said it would be a couple more weeks". He also mentioned that i shouldnt hold my breath for them to be that fast. So who knows?? At least they're not as slow as UCC!!! Goodluck with everything in the future!

Hey Vancoover,

What were the Dublin campuses like? I'm assuming you visited them when you went there.

Cheers,
Jocks

Has anyone not heard from UCD? I hope I am not left high and dry!

Haven't heard a thing here in Toronto. Then again, I didn't choose the fedex option, so I would imagine my mail is coming slower.

I'm also probably the only one who WANTS to get the letters much later. I hope they start coming in the middle of April. Otherwise, I can't accept any.

I haven't heard anything yet, and I want to hear quick..Cause i'm just literaly dying from that wait....waiting for 6 months is intense....I just hope I hear back ASAP....Anyone going to the 6 year program hear anything yet?...Just curious.....I payed for the fedex option..does that mean ABP will notify me of some tracking number? or anything..

Best of Luck to everyone in the future..

v-man, I applied to the 6-year program (still working on my science pre-reqs and no MCAT yet). I haven't heard anything yet...applied to UCD and Trinity via the ABP. I chose the courier option. I've been reading about others receiving notification - it seems many of them are in Canada. I'm not quite dying from the wait, but am anxious to hear something! Good luck!

I applied to the 6 year program through AB also RCSI and trinity havent heard anything from any of them.. still hoping for the best

My friend, whos now in 3rd year, heard back in April (early april).....soo..I guess theres still some time...

And..thats suppose to mean..?

Hey guys, it's my first post so be gentle.....I got an acceptance package from UCD last week and returned my acceptance yesterday (along with C$4400). I'm from Montreal, Canada and have little faith in getting into a school here.....it's just stupid hard. Anyone else planning on starting in the 5yr programme in September?

So does no word equal a no go for the first round?
Maybe no news is good news; but it has a detrimental effect on one's sanity!

Residency back in Canada will be difficult if you're looking at something other than family practice. Even then you will have to wait for the second round. Electives, I believe you are on your own and will have to call hospitals directly. Dublin is apparently very expensive to live in. I am curious what the student residences are like and how much is it per year. If there are any UCD students here please fill us in 🙂.

Acceptance package was received last week, dated February 13. They probably send them out every week. You can call UCD directly and they will tell you if your application has been looked at.

You can check out the UCD accommodation site here:-

http://www.ucd.ie/accommodation.htm

Accommodation in Belgrove and Merville are €3383 Sept-May ...but electricity in Merville tends to be a bit pricier than Belgrove...because the electricity prepaid cards finish up real fast (based on what I heard from friends at UCD). Everything else is pretty fine though, but if you don't like sharing bathrooms.................

Thank you very much 🙂

Has anyone sent in their medical consent form? I'm tracking the delivery now and it says it was delivered to City Centre, Ireland. Wtf?

You're welcome,Arb 🙂

I think City Centre refers to the Dublin City Centre...so it more than likely means that your document has been delivered.worry not!

I've more information on the two main UCD undergrad residences..for those of you who wanna know:

1. About what I said about the electricity cards -- Merville uses the prepaid electricity cards which you can easily get at the store near the hostels;the residents in Belgrove are billed (every two or three months..i'm not sure..)

2. Residents are not billed for water

3. Kitchen utensils aren't provided..you'll have to pay some deposit to get them

4. The accommodation doesn't come with internet access. You'll have to sign up for a connection yourself. Irish Broadband (http://www.irishbroadband.ie)has a €19pm package which includes the modem and unlimited usage. While waiting for your connection though (or if you don't want to spend on that 😱), you have to make do with the wireless internet at the laundrette, which is free.

5. For the TV addicts-- there's no television in the apartments! You'll have to rent one.

6. The campus is about a 20 minute (or so) bus ride to the Terrace. Depends on the traffic, and whether you miss a bus, of course! 😉 But I heard that they'll be moving the faculty of medicine to the new health complex on the Belfield campus itself, though dissections are still held in the Terrace for the time being. If you cycle to the Terrace, it's about a 30 min journey.

Hope this helps!!

p.s. Does anyone know if first-years are allowed to stay in the Postgrad residences if they apply?

Hey Everyone,

I'm sending off my deposit and acceptance letter tomorrow. The admissions package said they reserve housing for NA applicants in the medical and vet programs. Do they house them mostly together? And if so, what res are they usually placed in?
Any current UCD students, if you could give us noobs a rundown of the whole dealie, it would be very much appreciated. Also, for those accepted to the 5-year program, how old is everyone? Thanks again for all the helpful info.

Cheers,
Jocks

Hey arach,

Ya, I'm a poster on premed101.com as well. I haven't heard of one, but the upper year NA's will know how to go about it. Also I've heard that Kaplan also has good USMLE prep material.
Oh btw, I'm 23.

Cheers,
Jocks

Hey arach, No im not from Mcgill....if i was i'd have more confidence about getting in there. I've accepted a spot at UCD but am also unsure as to whether or not I'll definitely be attending. I had an interview at Queen's and have ones at Universite de Montreal and Mcgill coming up.....getting accepted in Canada is just impossible. Also, being 23, i dont want to sit around and wait for acceptence to a Canadian University when im 30. I have questions about electives......namely what exactly is meant by them? and why am i left to contact the hospitals? Thanks

Oh....for you Jocks.....i'm 23 and accepted to the 5yr programme w. a BSc in biochem.

Hey Everyone,

For the Medical Release Forms sent back to UCD, did you list their Student Health Service, or your personal GP?
Also I have yet to receive anything from UCD since sending my acceptance. AB sent me a welcoming package with a general info document for new UCD students, but that was it....let the excitement start to build....

Cheers,
Jocks

Hey Jocks, I think i got the same package as you....was it last years student guide and a campus map?? I laughed when i got that. The UCD website isn't the best but with a lot of searching i found some more info. Here is a link to the FAQs....they say here that all test have to be done by their doctors. http://www.ucd.ie/medicine/medicineinfo/faq.html
Also, here's a list of the courses we'll be taking each year.....its a little more accurate than the list in the booklet sent by UCD. http://www.ucd.ie/medicine/medicineinfo/schoolofmedicine/systems1.html
Apparently we have to register in person in september?? Its going to be a long and anxious summer.
