Any thoughts on how these two compare. Both cities would be spectacular to live in for a few years but I want to make sure I look towards the future as well.

Thoughts on:
- How they compare to each other
- How they compare to the elite programs in the nation
- Which (if either) will offer me better fellowship options nationally (not just in their respective regions) and if either has a better national reputation
- How would you rank them and why

seattle is a far better city, and you can root for the dawgs.

choose the UW.

your other questions can be answered via interviews and your own online research.

Both will offer you fellowship opportunities nationwide at your choice (although it seemed that UChicago residents matched at more "prestigious" places). Lots of research and big names at both programs.

UW has many hospitals, bread and butter, trauma,
UChicago has more tertiary/quaternary care, is much smaller and tight-knit. Also UChicago is a far wealthier dept (in terms of what they spend on residents).

Chicago is slightly more affordable given that it's a true big city. Seattle is temperate but gray for 9 months out of the year.

I'd say, go with where you'd rather live. If you want a big city to find your soul mate, I'd choose Chicago. If you don't mid a medium sized city and like the outdoors, choose Seattle. I will say, I thought the residents at UChicago seemed happier.

Pardon my total stream of consciousness here.

I'm a UW student, feel free to PM me for more about the program.
