I already addressed most of the essay topics in my personal statement...
I thought the real kicker was that "many applicants have commented that they have learned a great deal about themselves in answering these questions." I feel like if it takes answering a bunch of inane essay questions to figure out who you are as a person, then you do not need to be attending medical school in the first place!
I plan to address this in the "additional comments" box at the end of the application... yeehaw, automatic rejection here I come!
Uchicago is one of the schools that really takes the essays seriously in selecting interviewees. (unlike some schools where it's more of a formality). So if you are applying there take the essays seriously and do your best - and if you can't be bothered writing something decent then it's probably a waste of money to send the 2ndary back as numbers alone will not get you the interview there.
I finally finished the secondary and sent it in. After reading each of my essay, there appeared to have common themes, which was totally unintentional but cool. And, doing those essays does get you to thinking a lot about yourself. Hopefully, they value what I wrote as much as I did.
For the letters of recommendation with UChicago's secondary, do you think it has to be 3 faculty members, as in 3 professors, or can it be 2 science professors, along with one other person? I'm hoping the third person can be someone besides a professor.
