Hey guys. Figured I'd have good chances of finding someone here who has taken A&P at UCLA Extension program.

I'm trying to take this to prepare for paramedic school, as well as to have on record if I do choose to go the medical school path later. I studied biology in college, but we never specifically had Human Anatomy or Human Physiology. Which course do you recommend taking.

Human Anatomy and Physiology (X 400.6) seems like a basic overview course, right? So, I'll take them separate.

Introduction to Human Anatomy (XL 13) seems like a pretty thorough class since it also fulfills UCLA student requirements and has lab.

Fundamentals of Human Physiology (X 401) is worth more units and recommended for pre-meds. BUT it doesn't have a lab and wouldn't even fulfill UCLA GE requirements Intro to Anatomy (don't need the requirements, just using it judge the course).

Wouldn't a lab component be important? Even the community colleges like Santa Monica and Mt. SAC have lab for each. Wouldn't med AND medic schools want this?

Would you recommend going the "Fundamentals" route or the "Introduction" route? (Assuming they have Anatomy class and Physiology class for each...this quarter only the above is offered).

Human Anatomy and Physiology
X 400.6 Physiological Science 4 units $430

(For general education students.) This course provides an introduction to the structure, function, and integration of cells, tissues, and organs of the human body. Systems considered include muscular, nervous, cardiovascular, respiratory, digestive, renal, endocrine, reproductive, sensory, and cognitive. Instruction develops from molecular and cellular principles through organs and organ systems to energy metabolism and fluid compartments, considering homeostasis and responses to stress, and concluding with central nervous system functions in movement, consciousness, and language. This course is a prerequisite for the Certificate Program in Fitness Instruction. Course materials are available both in class and via Internet.

Introduction to Human Anatomy

XL 13 Physiological Science 5 units $565

This course presents a structural survey of the human body, including the skeletomuscular, nervous, circulatory, respiratory, digestive, and genitourinary systems. Laboratory includes examination of human cadaver specimens. Fulfills in part the UCLA General Education requirement for Life Sciences. Not open for credit to Physiological Science majors.

Fundamentals of Human Physiology

X 401 Physiological Science 6 units $515

(For premedical, nursing, and allied health students.)
This course is designed to introduce the basic fundamentals of human physiology to students who are seeking careers in the health sciences. Lectures cover cell structure, molecular movement and control mechanisms, energy and metabolism, neural control and sensory systems, enzyme function, endocrinology, muscle physiology, control of body movement, circulation, respiration, immunity, kidney function, digestion, and metabolic regulation. Laboratories emphasize practical application of theory reviewed in lectures. Prerequisite: Basic college chemistry and anatomy are strongly recommended. Students must attend both laboratory and lecture sessions to receive credit. Course materials are available both in class and via Internet.

Sorry to necro-bump. Out of curiosity, which one did you end up taking?
